An alien visitation fiction...

Turanil (and others) I might suggest a few books for you by Robert L Forward.

Dragon's Egg and Starquake (which may been repackaged as a single volume since I first read them) are a pair of books that are about almost exactly the scenario you describe, Turanil. Except the humans are the slowpokes, and the aliens are the speedy ones (they live on the surface of a neutron star, you see, and their bodies work on nuclear timescales, rather than chemical ones).

I might also suggest the Rocheworld books, again by Forward (and some of his family). Mor on really well considered alien life that is quite dissimilar from humanity.

Nah, it's okay. Everybody knows men are from mars, women are from venus, and lesbians trapped in men's bodies are from the suburbs of Neptune.

And Torm's the exception to the above rule.... :p

Do I even wanna know where the gays trapped in women's bodies come from.....? :\

Don't think I've ever met one. Then again, how would you ever know a nancy was trapped in Nancy's body?

(Disclaimer: While straight, myself, I have an unusually high number of GBLT friends. Please, nobody send the Gay Mafia after me. ;) )

It's hijacking, but, so be it. I'm a little upset by all this. It's not really offensive, because I know you're kidding around, but, it comes close. What exactly would a "Lesbian in a Man's Body" be, Torm? If it's what I think it is, I think it crosses the line, just a little. I mean, unless you are transsexual, in which case I have no reason to complain.

(Disclaimer: I've been kinda worked up by all the Gender threads in General, and how negitive the one that was closed became. Not to mention the fact that it was closed before I could post, though that's probably for the best. This stuff's been on my mind for the past week, and I'm just a little hypersensitive at the moment. I'm usually a bit more thick skinned. A bit. Really..)

Well, close. I probably WOULD be a transsexual if it were a lot easier and less disruptive to one's life, and if I didn't know for a fact that without a lot more money for reconstructive surgery than I'll probably ever see, I'd be a damned ugly woman. ;)

What I mean, in my case, by "lesbian trapped in a man's body" is that I admire women a great deal, and I have made a great deal of effort to bring my feminine (creative) side to the forefront and I allow it to overwhelm my masculine (deconstructive) side as much as possible. But I find women sexually attractive - in fact, to get a lot more personal than I intended to with this conversation, I sometimes find it difficult to enjoy things (ahem, Eric's grandma) without thinking of myself as a woman. I don't mean the sort of crude comments you may have heard from men before about, "if I had breasts, I'd never leave the house," or things like that.

Does this mean I hate men, or that I hate myself? No, I accept us as what we are - inferior in many ways, but superior enough in others to be equally valuable. Just not in other ways that I particularly admire, most of the time.

And I was kidding about the "nancy in a Nancy" thing - I can definitely see how some women, especially ones that have had the short end of things, might find it desirable to have the physical strength and sexual dominance and (to be kind, we'll call it) determination of will that men have, but still be attracted to men.

If any of this is what you were thinking was borderline offensive, I'd legitimately like to know. And if you are uncomfortable following up on any of it on ENWorld, my e-mail is torm1975@bellsouth.net.

I'll bet Turanil is SO glad this is the direction this thread has taken. :p

You know it! Wish I had the balls to be as open as you, Torm, but, then again, this is not the place for such discussions. I'm not upset, or offended, especially since you responded. Thank you for being so open and up front. I take that as a sign of great respect, and I'd like to return the favor. I'll definately email you, though it might start off short, given I have 30 minutes until I'm out of work.

Thank you, Torm.

May we all return to the regularly scheduled thread and talk about aliens instead of people.

So, how 'bout them Alpha Centurions, eh? I hear they have heglars and jagons... And I make no mention of nezmins!

I know I was kidding around as well, mostly taking "shots" at Torm. ;) I wasn't intending for anything to get anyone upset over.

Sorry you couldn't post on whichever Gender thread you're referring to. It's a topic that can get heated if left unchecked. I think the "Cross-Gender Characters" one got a bit heated, m'self.

I'm also straight, albeit female.... ;) Although a bit on the "tomboyish" type because I've had more interest in some things guys do, like having action figures as a child instead of dolls. Then I hang around alot of guys in my local SF groups/clubs and have seemingly "fit in" as "one of the guys". I don't care to talk about alot of stuff the "girls" do like their boyfriends (which I don't have), soap operas (which I could care less about), girly flicks at the movies (which I don't watch as I go for more of the action, blow-stuff-up type of flicks), or shop all day at the mall (I usually only go to the bookstore and back out again).

He does have a lot of cajones to say things that he does say........ ;) Gotta respect a guy for being open about alot of things rather than hiding them.

And abt Alpha Centurions, I don't know about them having "heglars and jagons" but they ended up having Zephram Cochrane...... (gratutitous Star Trek reference) ;)

Who knows.... aliens may be secretly observing us like people did on a Trek episode I saw years ago, hiding behind a cloaking device while snooping on this planet they were on....
