An ancient civilization making a comeback... which race?

Githkin; your choice of githyanki, githzerai or both. You can't go wrong with them. :)

Cheers,
This is a good idea. The time span can be explained by a simple retreat to the Astral Plane.

I like the idea of the Killoren but I don't have races of the wild. I've been thinking of Troglodytes or Lizardfolk, the plague mutating them into what we know as today, but they were once a proud, beautiful people.

Seriously considering doing ogres or trolls... so many ideas in this thread!

Where can I find more info on Killorens and Grells?

As soon as I saw your message I thought 'Gargoyle'. Could have been more fleshy at one time, but hiding underground has made them more stone-like. They were once all winged, but this latest generation has only a few with wings...

Such terrible spelling and punctuation, but such great ideas! I really dig the hell out of all these concepts.

um thanks - I think :\

I do like sinecures idea of Trogrells too

The gigantic hulking brute lumbers towards you with suprising agility and your first though is that this is a troll you face, but then its head comes into veiw, a bulbous purple-grey cranium glistening with slime, a wide beak screeching and hung with four leathery tentacles...

Grells can be found in Lords of Madness apparently

Thanks for all the input... haven't made a solid decision but definitely leaning towards lizardfolk. Feel free to check out the discussion board, its only been up for a day and there is starting to be activity so if you'd like to join a play by post campaign, I'm starting two up.

You can mix things up a bit by having it be reptilians in general - lizardfolk and their variations in later MMs, trogs, kobolds, even the dragonspawn.

That is a good idea, they morphed into different creatures because of the plague. Might run with that... I do have a little planned with kobolds and this might play into that.

As far as I know there isn't that much information on the Killoren outside of Races of the Wild. Personally, I think the book would have been greatly improved by giving more room to the Killoren and less to the Raptorans. The Killoren are living embodiments of nature. While their current aspect (ancient, destroyer, or hunter) greatly affects their appearance, they look something like this:
