An Excerpt from my forthcoming novel

First Post
For any who might be interested, I've posted an excerpt from my next novel, a sword and sorcery tale entitled, THE HAMMER AND THE BLADE (June 2012 from Angry Robot Books).

You can read it here. If you do read it, I hope you enjoy.

Good scene. Great characterization. Is this your first effort on a novel, or are there others? I think you have a career ahead of you, judging by what I've read here.

I've actually written over a dozen novels and many, many short stories. My work up to now has been in the Forgotten Realms (the Erevis Cale novels for Wizards of the Coast) and in the Star Wars galaxy (for Del Rey and Lucasfilm). My bibliography is here.

THE HAMMER AND THE BLADE will be my first non-tie-in novel, however, so in that regard it's a first. :-)

Sorry if I offended, but I'm just not the consumer I used to be. Like I said, you seem to have a flair for characterization. And you could see how long the two had known each other by the way their interactions rolled out. It reminded me of when my brother and his friends used to work on their cars out in our front lot: a lot of extraneous stuff going, on, but basically they were all about the task at hand. Description was at the minimum, but you could still see it all, because the action and the dialogue carried the whole scene. It's really quite good.
I write too, but I have never published anything. My best thing, I think, is poetry, which I can usually see the end of from where I start, so I end up finishing almost all of it. I have two novels working, right now, but I've been "working" on one of them since I was 18, about 23 years ago. The second is just in it's infancy, and I started about 4 days ago as a result of NaNoWriMo. I am about 6000 words in, and it looks pretty interesting.
Anyway, is this latest of your books only available via download, Or can I get it at Barnes and Noble or Books A Million? Your characters have made me curious about the story.

Oh, I take no offense at all. :-)

The Hammer and the Blade will be distributed by Random House for Angry Robot, so it'll be in available in print format in essentially all bookstores (it will also be available for download in the various ebook formats). Release date is June 26 of next year.

Paul, I'm on the second book in the Twilight War series (and read the first series) and am really having fun. Thanks for your work.

Zaukrie: I'm very glad to hear that. My sincere thanks. I think the Twilight War represents the best of the Erevis Cale stories published so far (though I think the forthcoming GODBORN, is better still).

Krug: Thanks, man! It does feel a long way off. But I've got a newborn baby and twin seven year old sons, so time seems to zip past before I know it. :-)

Continuing the monthly excerpts leading up to release: I've posted the third excerpt, for anyone who might be interested in seeing if the novel is likely to be something they'd enjoy.

If you read it, I hope you dig.
