An idea for a Feat for multiclassing Spellcasters

Say, what do you folks think of a feat like this:

Dedicated Spellcaster
Even when multiclassing, you stay interested in spells.
Prerequisite: At least one level of a non-spellcasting class.
Benefit: Taking this feat adds one to your caster level for one spellcasting class.
Special: This feat can be taken multiple times, but each time must be for a different spellcasting class.

Does it mean a 6th level wizard casts as a 7th level wizard? ie can cast 4th level spells? If not then Spell penetration is more useful most of the time.

I'd second this. I must assume from the feat that it only increases caster level and not your effective level in regards to the spell casting charts of your various classes. The problem with multiclassing is that you lose the slots/spell levels, not the caster level. I don't think I'd take a feat for +10' distance or another minute of duration.
