An incredible game review article

Great comments from readers. Not one was positive. They gave bad reviews to two great games. I really enjoy both Ticket to Ride and Pandemic. I'm actually planning on teaching Ticket to Ride to a bunch of people on Christmas. I think they will really enjoy the game.

Beldar

If those reviewers think those games are complicated, maybe they should try Arkham Horror or Agricola or Puerto Rico.

Pandemic and Ticket to Ride are truly fun games that have numerous levels of strategy. They are anything but complicated.

They got pounded and rightfully so

Wow. Just.... wow. An 'F' for Ticket to Ride??? That is considered one of the kings of gateway boardgaming. And what's so "arcane" about a scoring system that's PRINTED RIGHT ON THE BOARD? *boggles*

I brought Ticket to Ride to my parents house for Thanksgiving. I played with my GF, two nieces (aged 11 and 16) and my mother. My mom, who really could care less about games like this, had a blast and won. Everyone had fun. I suspect the 'reviewer' didn't get the strategy of the game at all, and it's a pretty light game at that.

I am glad to see someone finally stand up to the Eurogamistas.

Even if they don't know what they are talking about.

These board games are not for everyone. I think there are plenty of people who call these games complex because they are more comp-lex then they are used to. Games like Agricola would just be mind blowing.

Agreed, but they are reviewing some pretty light games, not Agricola or Puerto Rico. More importantly, I find it a disservise that they gave up even trying a simple game like Incan Gold. Being a professional review, the reviewer should have made an effort or not graded the game at all. They could have discussed how the rules were difficult to understand, but at the very least they should have played the game. I certainly wouldn't respect a movie review if the critic walked out in the first 10 minutes, regardless of how bad the movie was.

As simple as most of these games are for gamers, a lot of times people who aren't gamers just don't get them. Whenever I've tried showing even the least complex of Euro type games to my family or some of my friends they just can't wrap their head around it.

As someone who has played lots of various table top games from a young age, I can pick up something moderately complex rather quickly and have it make sense to me. Someone who hasn't can have trouble with even the simplest games.

The article seemed to be looking for simple party games. They didn't find these games simple. You can disagree with them all you want but that is their opinion and I can respect that these games simply weren't for them. The people commenting on the article don't really make gamers look any better.

I saw the "report abuse" buttons on the comments, but was disappointed to find there was no similar button for the article itself.

Oh wellz.
