An interesting conundrum with the DI...thoughts?

Dungeonland/Land Beyond the Magic Mirror are part of Gygax's vision for the dungeon. That's not parody, that's a very welcome back to basics.
Strange I thought they were EX1&2 or something similar.

Not sure why no one has mentioned it yet: EX1 & 2 (Dungeonland/Land Beyond the Magic Mirror) are by Gygax. I don't really know, but I think I read somewhere that some of the Castle Greyhawk module from back when (ie, the insertion of Captain Kirk, etc) was a (bad) parody of EX1 & 2 by Gygax-unfriendly TSR folk.

I'm not Razz, but I'm quite happy with the new hardcover adventure format. .

Well I am NOT. It wastes entirely too much space on useless rules mechanics and repetitive texts, offers silly straightjacket preplanned actions for the monsters, and all this at the detriment of descriptions and fluff that could make the adventures spring to life.

That said, anybody checked out Gleemax or rather "Ugly Max" ? If that ... thing supposed to be the fabled DI ? If so, there is something to correct, and quick ! I have rarely seen a webpage so ... ugly. It would barely be approriate for a Call of Cthulhu horror mi-go thing in a minimalist way, and .... well see for yourself.

You're confusing what they are with what they were first imagined by Gygax to be.

Is there any place where I can read more about how the modules were imagined to be? It'd be neat to contrast that to what they eventually became, which is all I have.

Sorry Maggan, but the answer to Stereofm's question is Yes. Gleemax IS part of the fabled DI. Its not the only part and more will be released eventually, but it IS the community face for the DI and according to what WotC has said will be the central gathering place for all the gamers and games being brought together under the DI umbrella.

Some folks seem to believe that the DI will be a solely D&D focused product, but D&D is only a fraction of the DI's scope, at least according to what WotC has announced to date.

Hrm. Considering in the interview they specifically said that Gleemax and the DI are NOT the same thing, I'm wondering where you get your information from?

Part of, could be. The whole DI as pertaining to us D&D players? No. And that was the question, as I understood it.

Gleemax is for now a preview of a platform, which will have several components, one of those will be the D&D part. So Gleemax now is not the service that WotC has alluded to as the "D&D Digital Initiative".

At least that's how I have understood the discussion.

The Gleemax page(s) as you see them today are not how they will look. Color, font, functionality will change. What you have there now is a basic web page with a message board and blogs that are being used to announce the venture and provide information about what it will become. There is also a ARG (alternate reality game) that was used to tease the site and build early interest among game players like like ARGs. The Lost TV show among other thinsg has used an ARG and Jordan Weisman, founder of WizKids, is credited as a early pioneer of using ARGs for marketing.

Gleemax will provide back end architecture for the D&D DI (commuinity pages for example) but the look and feel and branding will be D&D (down to the URL). If they so choose there will be D&D or other RPG users on the Gleemax portion.
