And here it is....the WotC contest Delay.

Those are insanely broad categories. I suspect most entries could fall under one or more of those. :-)

(Dragonlance: It had flying cities AND dragons!)

Dang! I could have used airmail after all, and saved myself eighteen bucks worth of International Air Express. (The problem here was not getting submissions written and postmarked by the deadline, but getting them delivered before the semifinalists were announced.)

Of course.

I've been skimming a lot of threads on different sites and have come up with the following common world themes.

Water worlds with Islands.
Flying cities world
Golden age of magic setting
apocalyptic world setting
dragon setting
demonic setting
evil has taken over the whole world setting

Anyone do any of these?

Yes, and Yes. Not going to say which ones. IMO, there is no such thing as a new, fresh idea. It's simply in how you spin it. Was FR original? Not really. Dragonlance? Try again. Ravenloft? Heck no. Greyhawk? *snort*

But it's all in how you spin it.

I'm hoping WotC likes my spin. :)

Oh, and Dragonlance didn't have flying islands, but they did have flying CITADELS. That looked like....you guessed it. Flying castles...on islands.

Go figger.

Yep. I did one of those, but with two more twists that weren't on your list. Hopefully one or both of those twists will push the right buttons. I suspect that one, but perhaps not the other, has a decent chance of being unique.

Just had a thought about the three entries that will be chosen.
One will be the next big realm. But the other two...they could still make it into publication as smaller realm suppliments or large realm/module ideas.
i.e. Forgotten realms came out but Ravenloft (a cool, smaller and more niche world) came out around the same time. If I've got my history right. (I could be wrong.)

Could be we'll see all three out in different incarnations.

:D

A delay was a sure thing. It'll be a long month. Perhaps they'll announce at GenCon...

Not even one....thank the fates! Score me one more point for being original. Yeah baby!

None of the above.

I've got it! It's a perfect mix of all of them!
It'll be a water world with islands, with flying cities above, and it's the golden age of magic as well, except that dragons and demons are everywhere, and evil has taken over the whole world, and there's this Sesame Street character who's more powerful than everyone there and beats bloody Great Red Wyrms up for breakfast! *goes off to write submission*

Just as long as the character isn't red with an annoyingly high voice that has the same effect as fingernails on a chalkboard...
