Doctor Varn Janno

Doctor Varn Janno

1st Level Centauri Scientist
Hit Points: 9
Initative: +0
Speed: 30 ft.
DV: 10
Attacks: +0 melee or ranged
Special Qualities: Primary Area of Study (medical)
Saves: Fort +0, Ref +0, Will +4
Abilities: Str 10, Dex 11, Con 10, Int 15, Wis 14, Cha 13

Feats: Alien Anatomy
Funds: 25 cr.

Standard Equipment: Breather Mask, Carryall, Communicator (Throat Mike, 2 miles), Data Crystal x2, Identicard, Recorder

Background: From the moment Varn was capable of speech, he claimed he was destined for greatness. As a child, his "destiny of greatness" didn't hold any specifics, but when this was pointed out to him, he was undeterred.

By the time he came of age, Varn was cursing his fate. Born into House Janno meant any of his plans for greatness were snuffed out before he was even capable of walking, a harsh fact that he now realized. Fortunately, Varn was able to steer his determination onto a healthy road and he worked his way through medical school.

Varn displayed a keen intellect and was a very quick learner. He excelled in all his classes and completed his educated with exceptionally high marks. So high in fact, that an unexpected opportunity fell into his lap. He was invited to take a position as a doctor on Babylon 5. Leaping at the chance to expand his knowledge, Varn took the position.

Once Varn started working at Babylon 5, he realized something interesting. Here on the station, his birthright was less important. His destiny of greatness was reborn. Varn immersed himself in the study of medicine and extended himself into the field of psychology. His interest in alien life, still not sated, led him to learn about different religions. He found his knowledge of what made his patients "tick," mentally, spiritually, and physiologically gave him an edge other doctors did not possess.

These days, Varn works and lives in Red Sector. He asked to be transferred there once he felt he had enough clout to ask for the transfer. Varn is proud of his success, and very vocal about it. He recently purchased a recorder so he could have video history of his more "interesting" cases and claims to be putting together an autobiography, tentatively titled From House to Home: The Story of Doctor Varn Janno.

Varn spends much of his lesiure time in the Casino and the Dark Star. He finds these venues to be the best way for him to "celebrate" his successes. Varn has also spotted Ambassador Mollari at both places a few times, and is starting to develop a sort of "hero worship from afar" relationship with him. To Varn, the Ambassador represents the ideal level of respect and recognition that Varn yearns to acheive. He has never spoken with the Ambassador, but has spent some time observing him at the Casino or the Dark Star at least a few times.

Personality: Varn is arrogant, vain, and loud. Unfortunately, he tends to be right and has reason to be proud of himself, which only fuels these qualities. He has an unusual bedside manner, often joking with his patients and, even more often, brutally honest. With his knowledge of pyschology, Varn tends to wiegh how far he can takes jokes with one patient to the next and adjusts accordingly...unless he doesn't care for the patient. Varn is not one to keep opinions to himself and has only begrudgingly learned how to treat Narns, literally referring to his education on Narn medicine as "vetinary studies."

Skills: Climb +5, Concentration +5, Drive +6, Hide +5, Listen +2, Medical +2, Move Silently +6, Spot +2, Technical (Electronics) +3

Funds: 40 cr.

Standard Equipment: PPG W&G Model, PPG Cap (12 shots), Carryall, Communicator, Throat Mike (2 miles), Data Crystal x2, First Aid Kit, Flashlight, Identicard, Magnetic Soles

Background: Born into a family on Mars Geoff never had a quiet childhood like most Earthers. Forced from the beginning of his life to live with the life and death of friends and neighbors around him, he grew up colder then most knowing that each day may be his last. It was there on Mars that he became a man, and there that he lost his childhood.

On Mars he met and worked with various groups, and even acquainting himself with members of Free Mars. Yet, it was days before he was to take up a mission on their behalf, the battle with the Minbari began. Feeling a sense of purpose he joined with the Earth Force, hoping to become a pilot within the fleet.

Yet, such was not his lot and upon entrance to Earth Force they placed him in the ground forces. Training was quick and painful, but soon he forgot of his dreams of flying and instead became a ground pounder specializing in combat atop vehicles.

Just a few short months later he and his squadron were moved to join the front. Quickly he was shuttled away toward Io where the attack had already begun. Yet as the ships arrived nothing remained, all destroyed in a matter of minutes. Returning with the others for Earth, Geoff shuddered at the thought of his lost Mars, for good or bad, it was his home. However, when they arrived back the War of the Line had ended and Minbari had surrendered to Earth.

Over the next several years he was posted to Mars and Orion 4, where his skills were used and sometimes forgotten, for although he was a hard worker, he did what was only required of him and little more. Most simply looked over him for he was not the best nor the worst, only mediocre.

In the end he decided to choose a new place, for the Mars that he knew was changing too much, it was now worse then ever he saw it. It was then when offered a chance to transfer to Babylon 5 that he took it, to get away from the chaos and carnage that was all around him.

Arriving at Babylon 5 he was stationed as a low level security guard. Occasionally he went on patrol with others, but often left to watch over the holding cells when the drunk or disorderly were brought in. There he lived a forgotten life like he always did for even though he found friends, felt welcome, and did his job he never stood out never was the one all came to, never the hero. It was there often after his shift he would sit all alone in the night looking out to the stars, wondering if there was something more for him, wondering what else lay out there in the great unknown, wondering what more he could have been, wondering why he was never seen.

Background: For David McCall his life should be over. He was a green Lieutenant who had just earned his call sign “Cowboy” when the Battle of the Line happened. He volunteered for the suicide mission. It was his first time in any kind of real battle. He was lucky, everyone says that. He had enough skill to survive, but not entirely intact. Watching and hearing his friends and his brothers in arms die while he was unable to do nothing left him broken inside. He bounced around from assignment to assignment. Everywhere he went his superiors saw the same thing, a talented individual who had lost his edge and his will to live. He took risks that were unjustified. He became a danger to himself and others. Before David could hurt anyone he was asked to take an honorary discharge.

Left alone with survival guilt he took jobs on any ship he could. His technical skills and piloting skills keep the jobs coming. He fell into alcoholism to keep the pain and memories away. He went from job to job, drinking away anything he made for many years. It ended when he was alone on the bridge of a small transport. He was watching the graveyard shift half drunk when an unknown spacecraft came into view. It did not register on any sensors and it was gone before he thought of trying to record it. But it quickly sobered him up. It was unlike anything he had ever seen or heard about. It was easily ten times the size of his transport but maneuvered better then any fighter. It was a mix of colors that changes in hypnotically beautiful patterns. He only saw it for but a few seconds, but it becomes the second most important part of life after the battle of the line. He quit drinking cold turkey. He was on a mission to figure out what he had seen.

That was a few years back. David still takes the odd jobs, but is very interested in ones that take him to the less traveled areas of space when he can. He still has nightmares about the line, but he is slowly dealing with them. He is well traveled having been to Babylon % before on business and as well as looking for work. That is why he is there now; just looking for the next job.

Selise

Weapon Proficiency: Pistols

Cr: 975

Equipment:

Background:

Selise grew up with the Sister order on Minbar which made her a bit naive when she arrived on B5. She has been there for a short time now and getting used to her surroundings. Growing up in the temple and her service to Valen has taught her kindness and patience most of all. When she heard of her chance to leave the temple and go to B5, she was a bit scared but as all in her caste she went with the flow, as the humans say. With her abilities as an Telepath as well as part of the Religious Caste, her need on B5 would be of the utmost importance.
Being assigned there by her order, she never questioned it. One of her favorite places on B5 is the Gardens. Unlike Minbar, she finds it facinating to be in. Her calm demeanor makes others, with the exception of a few, feel calm around her. There are few humans from time to time look at her with funny stares. Knowing and understading their fear she takes it with a grain of salt. Another human saying. In her short time she picked up some earth slang from here and there. She sometimes is drawn to the Brown Sector only to find the feeling mistrust and pain to go so deep, but being the person of service is who she is and it's what she is: Curious at times and cautious.

Feats & SQ:
Primary Area of Study (Technical)
Skill Focus (Computer Use)
Skill Focus (Astrophysics)

Equipment:

Background:

Becky graduated first in her class at university in Starship Engineering. However, due to her social ackwardness she was unable to secure a job with a major passenger line. Instead she has moved from job to job with freight and mining companies, never staying with any one ship for more than 6 months. She is currently on Babylon 5 looking for a new ship.

- Social Ackwardness is more shyness making friends and difficulty dealing with coworkers/superiors on the job. This difficulty keeps her moving from job to job every 6 months or so. This ackwardness doesn't apply as much to nonhumans - the social cues and body language that Becky misreads aren't there.

- Gadget freak - Becky is always looking for the coolest most cutting or bleeding edge gadgets. She's also up to date on most of the latest astrophysics journals. If she's not fiddling with something that isn't quite working right, she's reading.

- Neat freak - Beckys' work area is neat and organized. She likes to keep everything sorted so she can find it quickly if need be. Her personal quarters are more of a disaster.
