Angel 10/15/03 (possible spoliers)

It doesnt come on for me for about three hours (stupid west coast), but it looks interesting. The preview was something like angel trying to date a werewolf girl, or something. Sounds fun. When the whole Wolfrom and Hart thing started, I thought it might be crappy, but for the two episodes so far, its pretty decent. I really liked the second episode (last week), mostly because I think spike and angel's catfights are the most hilarious thing Joss has done in a while. And that evil butler wasn't half bad, for the short time he was, uh, unalive. Anyway, tonights episode = cool looking.

No, no Hivemind for me. It's an Enterprise reference, which will make sense after you've seen tonight's Angel episode, if you're familiar with the Enterprise characters.

Shall I go ahead and be specific?
The cryptozoologist in tonight's episode is played by John Billingsley, the same actor who plays the Denebulan physician, Doctor Phlox, on Enterprise. As the cryptozoologist, he turns out to be a bad guy - hence the "bad Doctor Phlox!" comment.

While it might have looked interesting to some, I have to say, IMO, that has to have been the worst epsiode of Angel I've seen. Angel has at times, been bad, but never have I been completely and utterly bored throughout an entire episode, at least not until tonight. The story was incredibly dull, the acting was dull, the guest star was super boring, and no one seemed on the ball. Also, is anyone else noticing some sound problems? It seemed like this week's and last week's had a lot of voice-overs that didn't sound right. I can only hope that next week's episode, which looks interesting, is spectacular.

Ohh... now i get it. Well, i knew it was dr. phlox imediatly when I saw the Angel, i just dropped the ball on the origional reference. Somehow I pictured not Enterprise but the doctor on Futerama. ANd then i was like "what the heck is a denubulan cookie? that was never on Futurama!" Whatever.

Thats clever in many ways.

This ep had a pretty different feel from the rest. Complete with a happy, gooey ending (wha? ). Time for bullet points.

The Good
  • Jessie's Girl
  • "Like Frankenstein?"
  • The pre-transformation, complete with blood-lust and sense-overload.
  • Spike's telling of he and Wesley's "past."
The Bad
  • The After School Special Feel
  • The jagged plotline. I wanted more on Gunn and Spike. The werewolf stuff wasn't as interesting as those 2 character's problems. One of these looks like it will be remedied next week. Yay!
  • A small gripe, but I liked the Oz/wolf plotline better in Buffy.
Final Grade: 2.5 out of 4 stars - It was just about average for your typical Angel episode. Not great but still watchable. I liked the non-typical villains in this one. Creepy.

4 = Classic. Blew me away from start to finish.
3 = Very good. Entertaining and a worthwhile experience.
2 = Average. Watchable but flawed.
1 = Terrible. Unwatchable dreck.
0 = I wish I had that time back. So bad that I may never watch the show again.

Yep pretty dull overall. My gf and I both ended up reading while watching the episode because it wasn't holding our attention. I was amused by the preview for next week's show, in which they are very specific about it containing "graphic scenes and partial nudity." Felt like I was on Fox for a second there...

The preview for next week's episode seemed to show Fred in the shower. :) But I have a feeling that the "partial nudity" clause is going to apply to Spike rather than Fred. Darn it all!!
