Anima RPG?

Has anyone played it? I saw it at the store and thought it looked neat. I'm primarily a DND4 or The Window player, so if it's needlessly complicated I'd like to know.

Could it be a setting which one could adapt for DND4?

Just looking for general info too. Thanks very much :)

I've not played it nor skimmed the books, but a friend of mine is running it for her group at the moment.

From what I gather it's a bit of an odd system but one that fits the OTT manga/anime style for a fantasy game. It seems like one of those games that doesn't take itself too seriously.

If you like that kind of thing you may enjoy it.

I played in a reasonably short lived campaign (perhaps 10 total sessions)

The rule system is incredibly complex. More complex than D&D (any edition), Hero or Gurps.

It seems fairly playable at least at the starting levels. But it wasn't at all obvious what the complexity was actually gaining one. A lot of it seemed like complexity for the sake of complexity.

Starting level characters are still quite kick ass.

The GM made lots of comments about how 70% of the book would never, ever come up on screen. Apparently there are all sorts of levels and wheels within wheels. And many absolutely absurdly powerful people out there unknown to the PCs.

I enjoyed the campaign but that was probably partly in spite of the rules instead of because of them.

More complex than GURPS and HERO? It has a lot of crunch up front in PC creation but in play its actually pretty quick and light. Sort of like BESM3e in many ways. Most of the complexity is illusory based on the godawful way the mechanics are communicated.
