Animate Object on a Wand?

So, would it work? I see nothing in the spell or creature description that would indicate otherwise, so I'm comfortable in saying that the wand could be animated. The big question is whether the animated wand could use its spell. Again, I'm leaning toward "yes", but I thought I'd solicit opinions before hitting my players with it.

Nope.

The spell in the wand is not on the wand's class spell list.

Anyone with a spell on his or her spell list knows how to use a spell trigger item that stores that spell.

It may be against the rules, but I'd allow it.

The REAL problem comes in aiming the spell. The thing is still just a wand. It probably would have to work like an inch worm, and have real trouble targeting anything.

Careful.

That sort of house rule would open the door for more...interesting applications by the players. Don't think they won't try to one-up the DM. :)

Moreover, you're neglecting the Wand's complete lack of Int and pathetic Wis and Chr (1 each). It can't even speak!

There might be something that would deal with this (in terms of rules and/or spells) in BoEM III.

Mind you, I don't have it in front of me, and a lot of it's spells deal with intelligent items.

I would be a little hesitant on letting the wand use it's power against a foe while under the effects of Animate object.

If you want to get your players with it, have the spell that animates the wand a higher level, and perhaps a rare spell to boot (i.e. the players would have a heck of a time getting the spell, without research and fun stuff like that.)

Other than that the regular animate object would essentially be animating a 2' stick to attack the enemies. If you have a house rule that makes wands dangerous if they are broken, that might make things interesting when someone wacks the pesky stick that's poking them.
