Animating some armor

One of my level 20 players wants to get some DR, and came up with this idea...

Coat his skin in animated metal, via a permanent Animate Object, kinda like Collosus of X-Men fame. Adamantine to be specific. To permanancy Animate Object costs 3,000 XP, but that seems a little inexpensive to me at first glance. The idea is pretty cool, I think, but the cost should reflect the benefit a bit better. What do you think would be a good price for this sort of personal enhancement?

I'm a bit confused as to what the player wants here. Does he want to be wearing a suit of animated, adamantine full plate?

Like another layer of skin, an exoskeleton thingy, no seams, hole for mouth and nose and other essential bits, but otherwise, like sitting inside a metal statue of him, animated so that it bends and moves with him, like a second skin. Think "Painting yourself in liquid rubber and letting it sit, with air holes etc."

A little more complete than full plate.

How does he get out of it? And more importantly, how does he control the Animated Object's actions?
