I believe the term you are looking for is not 'friend' but 'enabler'.

Yeah. Mike has said he likes to drop oblique hints. Krakens have come up a few times. Maybe there's something to it.

Enablers could totally be friends! Also, hints have been dropped for some time...just gotta find the hints that are leading to this and not just throw aways.

I just had a revelation.

D&D 5e has been out for a few years now.

The announcement will be Epic Level handbook with Epic Level rules & content.

That is all!

Considering that they have stated it isn't likely we will see any Time IV products, I doubt they will expand beyond. Levels 14-20 are epic level play in D&D.

How long ago was this?

They also said they wouldn't do a lot of bloat, but now we have Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Volo's Guide to Monsters, Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, etc...

If I recall correctly, it was either a tweet by Mearls or covered in a Dragon Talk (recently), but somewhere, somebody mentioned exploring epic level play sometime.

They said they wouldn't do tier 4? Damn :-(
The way they always phrase I'd in business case terms (because it is a business decision), but that very few people play past level 10-14, and those that do are making their own stuff. That's mainly about why we won't see higher level adventures, but the core rules already seem to cover epic play perfectly.

That is your idea of bloat, just wow.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with a slow release schedule, but to call a handful of carefully thought out books in four years "bloat" is a strange way to look at it. They've never said they aren't making books, just being targeted and strategic instead of scattershot.

Perhaps I was wrong.

There is a small chance that guess was right anyway.

It's most likely something else.
