Annoying Conspiricy Thread

Greyhawk/Gygaxian names that I know appear in the 4E core books, just off the top of my head:

Tenser, Mordenkainen, Vecna, Bigby, Pelor, Gruumsh, Kord, Yeenoghu.

That's just from memory, without opening the books sitting next to me.

I think they do that just to irritate me. They love using the cool Greyhawk names and dungeons, which are their property; but they use it to taunt us Greyhawk fans. All the names and locations are part of this POL setting that they are creating. I mourn for Greyhawk, along with Dungeon and Dragon. Of course, since Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance were the first Campaign Settings I must be delirious anyway. There's the conspiracy. The Masons, with Elminster and Waldorf are trying to remove Greyhawk from history. 1984!!!

According to the 4E Player's Handbook, the first campaign settings were Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance.

And its not a very good history overall.

My argument: Wizards of the Coast (and by extension Hasbro) intends to cut the Gygax Estate out of any royalties they may have been entitled to for the Dungeons & Dragons brand.

Wasn't that long ago this would be disputed first hand.

With the default setting being a generic 'points of light' approach, Greyhawk isn't a perfect fit.

However, I think that a Greyhawk campaign supplement would be pretty darn awesome.

Honestly - I have the Gazetteer, and I think - if I wanted to run Greyhawk - I probably could with about zero problems.


PapersAndPaychecks - Astoundingly, Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance are listed as the first campaign settings "to appear." No idea why, but it would shock me if this were an intentional slight. Then again, how could someone writing a capsule history of D&D not know about Greyhawk and Blackmoor?

Compared to, say, the Realms? That setting is so well lit, most of the residents wear sunglasses.

I thought that the statement meant "The first campaign setting THAT WASN'T CONSIDERED THE DEFAULT SETTING was Realms or Dragonlance"

Greyhawk and Blackmoor [and even Mystara] were considered the "default" world, like the PoL world is today.
