Annoying Elves

Elves are so obviously in the little big horn situation. Serious minority, no matter what they do.

If you meet any elves your party elf respects ask them why _________ does so much to encourage an Elf mass destruction among your humanoid kin.

I never got all the elf hatred. Calling 'em sissies, androgynous (oh what an insult), and questioning their sexuality (again, oh no).

Is it cuz they're prettier than you? :p

I don't see nothing worse in an arrogant elf than a gruff ale-drinking dwarf or a prankster gnome, or a judge-dredd paladin for what matters. They're stereotypes which we often try to change, but it's not necessarily a guilt of the player if D&D has created those stereotypes and repeated over the years.

Right on.

I use arrogant dwarf and prankster elves in one of my campaigns. I think judge-dredd gnome would be a nice addition. As well as gruff ale-drinking paladin.

Mention that when it comes to half-elves, the majority of the time the mother seems to be elven, and make vague references to the "size" and endurance of elven males...

That's typical for elves, ever since the Lord of the Rings. Unfortunately D&D elves are nowhere near as powerful as LotR elves, and can't usually get away with acting like that (except for NPC elves, where the DM can make them as powerful as he likes).

Geoff.
Quoted for truth.

I got flak recently in a discussion list when I dared say that not everything in D&D came from Tolkien, specially elves.

I also think that FR has much guilt in perpetuating this stereotype, lifting so many stuff from LotR.

Most stereotypes evolve out of the ability adjustments. Elf-int-smarter-arrogant (yes I know 3.5 elves get dex bonuses but it was not always that way) Dwarf-tough-lower cha-gruff Half-orc-stronger-low cha-bully.

I have a character not currently played from Dark Sun (the DM is waiting for everything to go 3.5) He is a 2nd ed Psion master. He was arrogant but he backed it up by protecting the lesser types (weapon wielders) from psionics. He never verbally attacked the other party members because they had their use, even if cannonfodder. He would say, "I would never debase myself by using a weapon"

To your situation, this guy is verbally attacking the party. Handle it the way you would any other jerk, elf or not. Confront him on nature of his arrogance. Take the high road, explain that everyone must work together to succeed and his attitude is making that difficult. If that doesn't work give him a blanket party (known as a code red in the movie A Few Good Men)
