Another Acrobatics question

Minosis

First Post
If you attempt to move through an opponents square using Acrobatics and fail the roll what happens?

The attack of opportunity of course but is that it?

could you try again if you had the movement?

could you just walk away if you had the movement? Here is the actual situation.

Rogue moves towards Paladin with a reach weapon, he makes an acrobatics roll to avoid the AoO, now that he 5 feet away he is not threatened, so there is no AoO to avoid moving through an opponents square, he's hastes so he has 60 feet of movement, if he fails to move through the Paladin's square what is to stop all of the above questions.

First of all, here is a Combat section excerpt you need to familiarize yourself with:
Moving Through a Square
You can move through an unoccupied square without difficulty in most circumstances. Difficult terrain and a number of spell effects might hamper your movement through open spaces.

Friend: You can move through a square occupied by a friendly character, unless you are charging. When you move through a square occupied by a friendly character, that character doesn't provide you with cover.

Opponent: You can't move through a square occupied by an opponent unless the opponent is helpless. You can move through a square occupied by a helpless opponent without penalty. Some creatures, particularly very large ones, may present an obstacle even when helpless. In such cases, each square you move through counts as 2 squares.

Ending Your Movement: You can't end your movement in the same square as another creature unless it is helpless.

Overrun: During your movement, you can attempt to move through a square occupied by an opponent (see Overrun).

Tumbling: A trained character can attempt to use Acrobatics to move through a square occupied by an opponent (see the Acrobatics skill).

Very Small Creature: A Fine, Diminutive, or Tiny creature can move into or through an occupied square. The creature provokes attacks of opportunity when doing so.

Square Occupied by Creature Three Sizes Larger or Smaller: Any creature can move through a square occupied by a creature three size categories larger than itself.
A big creature can move through a square occupied by a creature three size categories smaller than it is. Creatures moving through squares occupied by other creatures provoke attacks of opportunity from those creatures.

Designated Exceptions: Some creatures break the above rules. A creature that completely fills the squares it occupies cannot be moved past, even with the Acrobatics skill or similar special abilities.

Also, you need this part of Acrobatics skill descirption:
Action: None. An Acrobatics check is made as part of another action or as a reaction to a situation.

He was already hasted.

So let me sum up. If a character tries to move through an occupied space and fails the only penalty is an AoO , if possible, and a loss of 5 feet of movement.

Sigh. It's my turn to apologize. I've made a mistake...

Here is the crucial part of Acrobatics I forgot to mention:
In addition, you can move through a threatened square without provoking an attack of opportunity from an enemy by using Acrobatics.
When moving in this way, you move at half speed.
You can move at full speed by increasing the DC of the check by 10.

In other words, moving through threatened square while using Acrobatics halves the speed OR increases check DC by 10 (and you move at full speed).

The consequences are as follows:
- you may choose to use Acrobatics for threatened squares (counting them twice OR increasing appropriate DC by 10).
- you may move at normal speed otherwise.
- only threatened squares matter.

So, in case of a Rogue trying to walk around a Paladin:
Code:
p - Paladin

r - squares threatened with ranged weapon

...rrrrr...
...r...r...
...r.p.r...
...r...r...
...rrrrr...

o - squares safe for Rogue

a - squares requiring acrobatics check in order to avoid AoO
- failed Acrobatics check results in AoO but Rogue may continue
to move as normal unless Paladin is capable of adding immobilizing effect to AoO

A - square containing Paladin - failed Acrobatics check while trying
to move through this square results in a loss of two squares of movement
(possibly more, if the terrain here is difficult for some reason) and AoO
- Rogue may continue to move around or through this square

...rrrrr...
...r...r...
oooaoAoaooo
...r...r...
...rrrrr...

Hopefully, my explanation is better this time.

Ruemere
