Another "Becoming a God" Topic

G-Man

First Post
Hi all! I firstly need to say that my English is not that well but i hope everyone can understand what i'm trying to tell. Because of this, please forgive me if i use "wrong" words.

As the title says this is just an other topic that has questions of "Godhood". I quickly checked other posts -not all of them exactly- but i'm looking for different answers so i posted this new thread.
(My questions, descriptions and comments are about 3.5e Forgotten Realms and i'm looking for "RAW answers". I prefer official rules and ways instead of "I would not allow this kind of things" sentences. But feel free to say if you still not allow this :D )

So question is:
"How could i become a deity?"

-If i had 500 (1000? 5000? 10.000?) people who "worships" me can i become one?
-What about creating, controlling undeads that worship ME as their God?
-How can i reach Divine Ranks, without being "servant" of another Deity? I don't want to become prophet or anything like that!
-Is there any tricky way to steal divinity from a deity?
-Is it really possible to kill a God in her own realm?
-If i destroy all temples and holy sanctuaries with all clerics of a single Deity, can i get its powers?

I'm playing on a FR campaign at the moment and my greedy-power hunger chracter is looking for "more". He is just level 15 now but he can spend his life for more power like this. Epic and long term ideas are welcomed also. But i'm looking for the shortest way. (if the shortest way means being demilich at level 30 with 10.000 mercenary soldier and some undead servants, its still ok!)

As a matter of fact i'm looking for general ways to become a god, thus i'm not sure if you need my character info or not, nevertheless here it is;

Level 14 True Neutral Human: 1 Paladin of Freedom (Fallen) / 4 Wizard / 2 Ur Priest / 7 Mystic Theurge
Just need 1000 more xp for level 15.

As far as I know, there isn't an official "becoming a deity" path to take...

What I have seen used for NPCs is :

1) Killing a deity and taking their portfolio by force, not a simple thing to do...
2) Being promoted by a more powerful deity to divine rank 0 or 1 in exchange for service, and then gathering worshippers to increase rank.
3) Starting your own religion, adding followers and getting divine rank granted for acquiring a "large number" of worshippers, like 500,000 to 1,000,000.

It doesn't seem like it would be a smart thing for a GM to hand out to a player. Once you hit divine rank 2 or 3, you are almost impossible to kill, and what fun is that? Seriously though, divine salient abilities make epic feats look weak in comparison.

If you're looking for RAW for 3.5, there are a few short paragraphs in Deities and Demigods, but that's about it.

However, if you're willing to look at older versions of the game, there are some actual rules written in the D&D (not AD&D or 2nd edition) line.

If you can get your hands on a copy of the D&D Rules Cyclopedia, the D&D Master Rule Set (the one with the black cover), or the D&D Immortal Rules (with the gold cover) there were some rules for several paths for obtaining immortality in those sources. These could possibly be adapted to 3.5. Keep in mind however that these rules follow a system of being sponsored by an existing divine being.

Thanks for helping. I don't think i can find that old books but i'm going to check "Deities & Demigod" and "Faiths & Pantheons" again.
I'll try to convince a God (DM :P) for a divine rank in exchange of harming his enemies. But which one will be easier? Orcus against Lathander or Mystra against Shar (or vice versa)? Or none of them?

I don't think Shar will help you gain something at all...
Lathander will probably ignore you except if you are his cleric or paladin or something- and then not by request.
Maybe the other 2, depending on your alignment? But I think most possibly Orcus will prove bad idea...:erm: Then again, who says becoming a God is easy? :p

You're playing in the Realms and you want to become a deity? Surely all you need to do is take a ticket and wait your turn... ;)

That's a distinctly... um... "non-standard" build. You know, what with Ur Priests having an "Evil" requirement and all. Not that Ur Priests being evil makes any sense at all, but there you go.

If your DM is prepared to hand-wave stuff, then there's precedent for you to become a deity in the Realms: it's not like it hasn't been done before. Ex-mortal deities and demideities abound in the Realms - throw a brick and you'll hit six of 'em - and they've generally got there by:

1) Service to another god (Fzoul Chembryl, the Red Knight, Rivalen Tanthul etc.);

2) Inheriting powers from an existing portfolio when the Forgotten Realms Wheel of Deific Fortune spins (Kelemvor, Bane, Finder Wyvernspur, numerous others) or;

3) The application of artifacts that Man Was Not Mean To Wot Of But Frequently Does Anyway (Velsharoon and probably a few others whose names escape me right now)

You'll notice, however, that the majority of mortals-turned-deity are Evil... whether this is mostly because there's a higher turnover of Evil deities or because they're inexplicably more inclined to share than their Good counterparts, I couldn't say ;)

Present your DM with a list of ex-mortal Realms deities and agree an approach from the many, many options available to you. The Faerun pantheon has a higher staff turnover than the average McDonald's so you shouldn't have to wait long for an opening :D
