Another question about familiars

Magic Items - Pathfinder_OGC just covers humanoids so non humanoids is going to be up to the GM.

D&D 3.5E's Magic Item Compendium has some notes on this on page 219. Basically, if you don't have the area, you lose the slot and are not compensated for it. Horses do not get to wear rings. Canines can. For a more generous suggestion, there is this 3.5E article on Familiars.

"opposable thumb" is a useful trait to have when you game master does not let the player use Bob Sagat or youtube as a rules lawyer on what an animal can accomplish.

Can they use some kind of equipment ?

Depends on your GM.

Generally speaking, if YOU can conceive of something your given animal could wear then chances are somebody in the game world would have as well.

Likewise magical items state what spells/etc are involved in their creation so its mostly a matter of crafting something for the needed form and adjusting the base-material for the needed size. ie: a cloak > snot-rag for instance would require the same spells but far less cloth so should have a corresponding price reduction.

What exactly is the "opposable thumb" people talk about ?
the ability to bend one's thumb sideways for grasping and manipulating small objects. Raccoons have it so are essentially furry halflings whereas cats/dogs dont so must resort to batting at things using their paws and carrying via their muzzles.
