I'm not sure what the best approach for this would be...

If you released the (first) beta patch now, is there a way for people to tell if the version of E-Tools they have will work with it before they attempt to download it? How many versions of the program are there right now? Is it just a case of requires or doesn't require the CD? Which version was released first?

The no CD ver. was released first. It wouldnt be right to punish(and it would seem like that, correct or not) any portion of the ET users by having a patch for some and not others. Its best to wait untill the patch is available for EVERYONE !!
Be it final or beta, all should be able to access / use it at the same time. Lets face it, it was a mistake to release the program in different(undocumented) versions the way it was. Lets not contiunue the trend by keeping the mistake going. All for one and one for all.
Patch for one patch for all.

But why?

DO NOT Release a patch that isnt useable by everyone. That would be unfair. There has been enough unfair treatment towards ET cusomers in general so far, no need to specificaly target some now for bad treatment. Its Bad Mojo!

Is that because all E-tools customers are equally silly for buying a poorly-planned product that saw radical change through development and was predictably buggy and late that had its feature set slashed before release... or do you have another reason for not wanting to target some of them for bad treatment? :)

I know! You want to target all of them for bad treatment! Hmm, I thought E-Tools was already doing that.

Hey Ketjak- you might want to fix the link in your sig. I think you're giving your visitors the wrong message. I would have emailed you directly, but apparently enworld doesn't support that.

AV,

Each person will probably have their own opinion. Personally, I wouldn't mind using a Beta patch for the time being. I have used beta versions of programs (and some releases of programs that should have been beta). I'm comfortable enough with my computer skills that I don't fear a few measly bugs.

Thanks for coming on the boards and telling it as it is, that's way more important than releasing a patch today, tomorrow, or the next day. I have much respect for your dealings in the past, and you continue to stand by your reputation.

Thanks,
Ed

Chaz; "The no CD ver. was released first."

Oh, Bum.

I'd almost got to the point of considering getting E-Tools (post patch) again, until you reminded me of _that_ issue. Applications should _not_ require the CD in the drive; games do that and its only OK then because they take over the whole PC, apps don't.

Poo.

Please don't release a patch unless everyone who bought the game has the opportunity to use it. Meaning us No CD people.

I don't even mind so much the "need the CD" thing if I had to deal with it... I just want to see a patch.

*sigh* I'm one of those No-CD types, and frankly I'd like to see a patch that works for everyone, but if you have something that works for some people you should release it, albeit as a BETA version. There is no point in all of us suffering.

Yeah, go ahead and just release what you've got. I'll be fine. You see, I have this super-secret-totally-rulin'-awesome plan. I'll read which version the patch is for before I download it. But shhhh!!! Don't tell everyone.
