Any chance?

Do you think there is any chance that as a marketing ploy WotC has said that they’re releasing the books in June but really they’ll all be ready by April/May?

I know, I know wishful thinking, but if 4th ed doesn’t come out soon I’m worried my group may dissolve permanently...

We finished up a long 3rd campaign around x-mas and no onehas wanted to step up and invest energy into a 3.5 campaign if it may all go for naught.

Our weekly sessions have degenerated into videogame playing sessions, to the point now where under half the group even shows up but rather joins online...(and it's not even an online rpg) If we don’t have a good solid reason to come back to the rpg table soon I fear it may be the end.

All signs point to no, but you could try the fan made stuff that is lurking around and intended for use with the DDXP characters. Would let your group know if they should wait for 4e or just start up a new 3.5 game

Yep, try running a mini 4e adventure based on the previews we've been given. Sell it to them as a special "sneak peek" into the game. That might keep the enthusiasm for role-playing alive.

Try another RPG, shadowrun springs to mind, but might be a bit rules heavy if you won't be playing it for long.
Or perhaps have it be a game night where you play games like Axis and Allies or Munchkin, just don't do video games again, do something where you all have to be physically present and interact with material objects, like dice.

All for naught?

Well, just run some solo adventures instead of getting a campaign started. Get Exemplars of Evil and Elder Evils and end the old world to make way for the new edition.

Why not try a one-shot? Or a different game? Try Star Wars saga, or maybe a silly game where everyone is a goblin, and the goal is to defeat the 'evil' nymphs, unicorns, and fairies who are haunting the woods.

Other boardgames should also work. I've had tons of fun playing Fantasy Flight's A Game of Thrones and Twilight Imperium with friends that I don't roleplay with anymore due to other time conflicts.

All very good suggestions, and much better then the plan I had where I break into WotC and steal what ever version of the 4th ed rules I can lay my hands on ;-)

Thanks,

Maybe Saga, it's apparently 4th ed-esque...

I like this game. Here I go: Is there any chance that as a marketing ploy WotC has said that they’re releasing only 8 classes in the PHB but really there will be at least 9?
