Any D&D to DSA conversions out there?

Thank you for the advice, though I'm certain that the 'spell compendium' is only available in German (only two adventures, the setting guide, and the basic rules ever made the transition to English before FanPro quit trying). Do you know a good place to order the German supplements that has website I can read, that will ship to the US, and that will accept Visa or Mastercard payment?

I would simply drop the people at www.Dragonworld.de a mail. They do not only maintain one of the cheapest webshops for RPGs in Germany, they are also very quick to answer questions. No idea if they ship to you, but if anyone would, it would be them.

As to your conversion... It´s hard to do. As Jhaelen said, magic alone differs so much. Every spell has it´s own unique history, it´s own troubles, specifics etc. There are no new spells - if the guildmages rediscover one new spell per century, that´s many. Mages work best as respectable persons practicing an arcane trade, doubling as sages and diviners and supporters. Direct damage spells are awesomely expensive - i only play mages, and i never ever killed anybody with one of those. That said, if you know what you´re doing, you can be really effective.

You have to remember one thing: System and setting are so heavily intertwined in DSA that it hurts. The sole point of the system is to simulate playing characters in THAT WORLD period. And the world has it´s own special flavor you cannot really reproduce with another system. Hmmm, it shows that i love to play this game, does it? :D

Ulysses, the new DSA publisher of "Das Schwarze Auge" has recently released most of the "DSA 4.1" rules, called "Wege der Helden" (Character Creation), "Wege des Schwerts" (Combat and Skills) and "Wege der Zauberei" (Magic rules but NO spells). "Zoobotanica Aventurica", the "Monster Manual" got re-released under 4.1. The Spell Compendium is called "Liber Cantionis", there are several Versions, varying in price. The last Core Rulebook, "Wege der Götter" (Religions and Divine Casters) should release in march.
There are lots of regional supplements, so you may want to select the ones of the Regions you are most interested in. There are also "Efferds Wogen" (Naval and Underwater Adventures) and "Stäbe, Ringe, Dschinnenlampen" (Magic Artifacts).
And then there is "Myranor - Das Güldenland". As you are especially interested in Aventuria, you may be not interesated in this one because it describes one of the other continents, but in my opinion it's rather interesting. Sadly it's rather expensive (45 € in Germany).

My brother reminded me, that one of the 3rd edition regional supplements, Borbarads Erben, had been released as a free ebook by FanPro. It describes the Black Lands, ruled by the renmants of Borbarad's forces.

While this is material from the last edition, much of the content should still remain useful. Also, except Arania, none of those regions have been updated for the 4th edition so far.
