Any Gamers In Brighton (Sussex, England)? A New Game Shop Is Opening

First Post
Hi all,

I live in Brighton and just recently found out that a new games shop called Wargames Heaven is opening in a couple of weeks time. It's a bit hidden away (as in you could walk within a few yards of it for years without ever noticing it's there), and I only found it by chance, so I thought I'd post about it here for anyone who might be interested.

It's in Imperial Arcade, which is a small shopping arcade opposite the Churchill Centre, and about 5 to 10 minutes walk from the railway station. You can get a link to a map here. They're still fitting it out right now, but from the posters up in the windows it appears that it will have pretty reasonable support for roleplaying games. (And any games shop's a hell of a lot better than no games shop).

According to their website, the grand opening is scheduled for Saturday 29th August, although it doesn't say at what time.

I'm hoping to drop in at some point during the day: partly to say hi to Guy, the owner, and wish him luck; partly to put in an order for some KoDT and Dork Tower stuff I've been meaning to get for ages; and partly to try and give him a copy of my novel Game Night to see if he likes it and might want to stock it.

Anyone else in Brighton or Sussex who thinks they might be there?

By the way, just for the record, I have absolutely no connection with the people/person behind this business, have never met them, have had no communication with them besides a single exchange of emails, and am making this post entirely off my own bat.

Sounds great! It'll be nice to have a Brighton-based games shop open again, I'll try and get down there for that.

Wonder if they've got space to do something for Worldwide D&D Game day?

Cool! :)

Well the poster says it has a large club room, and from what I could see peering through the shutters it looks pretty big, with a main floor, a sort of mezzanine level, and then an upper level that might be the club room.

So hopefully, it will be big enough. I think the main focus of the shop will be wargames, because I think that's where the passion of the owner lies (which is very reasonable). But I think that perhaps just means that if roleplaying customers want things like Worldwide D&D to be supported, it's up to them to offer to help out with some of the legwork.

I'd certainly be up for being involved in some way. (In general organisation. Not GMing. You don't want to see me attempting to GM D&D.)

This is great. I'll certainly head down there on opening day. I went to Brighton today and all we've got is Dave's Book shop which is rather pants for RPGs.

Well things are clearly progressing. I nipped past the site on my way home from work, and saw that they now have a rather handsome sign up.

Oh, and if any of you guys do go down there on the opening day, I think it would be cool to mention you heard about it on ENWorld.

i think there loads of south-ish coast gamers

I've had a quick peek and it has a forum specially for shops, so I'm going to make a post there. Thanks!

Hi there

I live in Brighton, and used to play D&D and do some DMing a few years ago. Although I spend more time playing videogames nowadays, I am very happy to see a new Tabletop and RPG games shop in the city. Games Workshop used to be great, but then they got rid of all products not manufactured by themselves...

Hence, I will almost certainly turn up for the Wargames Heaven opening - look out for the short, bespectacled, mid fortiesish, beardy bloke... :)

Also, if you live in Brighton, or even as far away as London, and occasionally like a little computing with your RPing, I have just started a new website dedicated to online and offline computer gaming, which you can find here: Brighton Gamers - Home . I have even added sections for tabletop and pnp RPGs, so if you like the idea please go there, sign up and introduce yourself!

Selest :D

On that description it's going to be difficult to tell you and Heselbine apart...

Yeah, it can be a bit hard to tell us geeks apart, can't it? :)

Just for the record, I'll be the fortyish bloke with a goatee and some sort of vaguely geeky t-shirt. (i.e. Like about 50% of the people there). :)
