Any Good Mega-Module Suggestions?

I am currently running our gaming group through "The Lost City of Barakus". We just finished our 18th session in it and we are having a gas.

Now, this is a mega-module meant for levels 1 through 5 with slow XP gain to draw things out. It has a well thought out city setting, a wilderness section, lots of mini-adventures, as well as the mega-dungeon itself.

My questions are these: Can anyone recommend any of the other mega-modules out there? What good mega-module experiences have you all had? Something that you have been playing through for months/years. Any good suggestions for a sequel module to Barakus I could use to go beyond?

What I like about this setting is that it is a pre-generated world that I did not need to put much thought into to get the game running. Just add whatever level characters are recommended and away you go.

Thanks,

Scorch

Banewarrens.

Lots of plots and power groups maneuvering at the same time. About the right levels (I was a powerful seventh when our two person party started it).

One out of genre element at the end left a bad taste in my mouth but mostly an excellent adventure that lasted a long time.

I have not read it but as a player who went through it I had a great time.

Unfortunately, one of his players already owns that one, and has read all the way through it. :(

I have heard a lot of good things about Barakus...

Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil (RtToEE), which I will be starting soon, has had more of mixed reaction. From my own pov it has been more work then hoped to get it adapted and ready to run, and seems like a big commitment. But it has a nostalgia factor and a lot connections to classic D&D, including some specific things connected to past campaings that made me want to run it (like Homlet and Tharizdun, though not the ToE itself strangelly enough), and it has some over-the-top encounters that I am sure will be interesting. It is also a lot of module, so will hopefully save time in the end.

But this is not a whole-hearted endorsement...

I played through a good portion of it and I hated it. I also ran a good portion of CotSQ and hated that too. I'm running the Dungeon Adventure Path and it blows those two away.

Both Tomb of Abysthor and Vault of Larin Karr are about the right level and are sizable and well put together adventures. Albeit, they are 3.0.

Of the two, Abysthor mostly concerns a single dungeon one they players have worked the surrounding area and is more a tactical/exploration challenge in resolving the conflicts in the dungeon. VoLK has more wilderness activity, at least initially, and requires a bit more investigation.

Anything by Necromancer or Goodman games is worth using, assuming your group can handle characters dying. Tomb of Abysthor, Rappan Athuk, Grey Citadel, and Vault of L.Karr are all good. Caverns of Thracia, Bonegarden, Vampires and Liches, and others are good for higher level. Of course Rappan Athuk can take you to epic level and beyond. Plus RA Redux may be out soon enough.

Check out Goodman Games website for their modules and level recommendations.
