Any good Scifi+cyberpunk rpgs?

I see the strong side of DP9's games to be in the background area, but not in the rules. :)

And certainly not in the price...

I agree with this. The settings seem intersting, but (IIRC) its somthing like $60 (maybe more)to get core rule + a setting. I think this keeps some intersted players away because $60 to try out something is kind of spendy. Heck, the $40 going price on most RPGs these days seem a little high but @ least many of them have a setting included.

Shadowrun
SR is the standardbearer of Cyberpunk. Ultimately anything else in the genre is going to be held up against it for comparison, and I've yet to see anything else come close.

Remind me to run Cyberpunk 2020 for you sometime then. I'm not *just* a Shadowrun DM. ;) And Gibson's world came first.

Of an interesting note - you can always modify Shadowrun gently to turn the races in the setting into mutants, and the magical powers into psionics and fairly easily remove fantasy from the mix. I've been working on doing that for a hard sci-fi setting I run occasionally. Originally it was an Alternity system but I and the rest of the players agreed that the learning curve was too much for us to use easily at the table.

How about Fading Suns? The D20 version was more recent, i think, but i hear that the older system is just fine. Its not very cyberpunkish, though. Its more Dune'ish i'd say.
Seconded. Very very intriguing world though - i'd love to get to play in it again.

Of course, the $60 to get rules+setting seems cheap when compared to D&D, which costs $130 to get rules+setting.

Heh, i did that to shadowrun as well. The shift from fantasy and magic to mutations/altered humans and psionics is very subtle, but can make all the difference.

It's not like the mechanics need to change for it to work after all.

Other than some racial mods being changed, mine wasn't different at all!

I once toyed with the idea of running a rifts-like game with shadowrun. But it would have required work i didn't feel like doing. Plus i didn't want palladium commandos to bust in and kill me! :D

Dark Conspiracy

This is one of my favorite settings
Considering I own 2 different editions as well as one of the oldest supporters of the game on the net I heartily recommend it.

There is a ton of online support as well as a weekly chat devoted to DC, Demonground ezine and gaming in general if you want in let me know...

I can't call dp9 expensive either when comparing to D&D, now that's expensive, and the reason why I never updated to 3.5.
Didn't pay that much for the dp9 stuff either, since the local store had a 90% spring discount (+10% quantity discount  ). I got the whole heavy gear-line plus lots of other goodies for less than $2 a piece (the store clerk said that I had the longest receipt in their history :D ).
