Any info on Fiend Folio?

I sorta liked the "feel" of the Fiend Folio. If I'm not mistaken, it consisted mostly of fan-created material from a British publication from way back. Which, by the way, would be cool for EN World to do - have an open call for monsters, pick the best ones, and sell the result as a pdf to support the community.

That would be the Fiend Factory (where most of the monsters came from) and an open call for original monsters to be sold would be a pretty cool idea. Have to get someone to oversee the monsters though to make sure they are balanced and stuff (CRs, mechanics, special abilities).

I was not happy with many of the things in the orginal Fiend Folio. Many of the monsters just seemed like extras on Friday Night Fright or other shows that specialized in B movies. I did like and enjoyed it much more when I was young, but now in my crusty old age I seem to want a lot more out of a monster book. This might explain my neagtive reactions to many of them in the past month.

I think Crothian plays the grouch so he can up his huge post count, :p Just joking. Personally I agree about some of the critters in the 1E Fiend Folio, they were just rediculous.

It's more of a quality issue then a grouch issue. And just to remind everybody: "Post Count Means Nothing". ;)

Easy enough for someone to say who is the leader by far. :P I remember the first thread I ever read on here was you wondering why your post count was decreased by 6000. hehe

I think that the fiend folio was very hit and miss. When it hit, it hit really darned hard. When it missed, well, it missed really darned hard too. I think it's a great book just for some of the really cool stuff that was in there. Just ignore the dumb stuff and you've still got plenty of cool new creatures.

Slaadi were bad! I've had more fun with those nasties, both as a DM and a player. Great monsters IMHO.

And the Death Knight? Puleeze! Classic nightmare bugaboo for lots of adventuring parties.

All three 1e monster books had some sillies in them. FF may have had a few more, but there were still some sleep wreckers in there.

Actually it's easy for everyone to say. But the most important thing is, He Who Watches also has a sense of humor. And Wicht steals postcounts.
