Any news on when the open playtest starts?

No clue. My assumption is that they're waiting until more rules are written and checked before opening it up. It makes sense that they'll want a choice of modules available, so both 4e and old school fans can use rules that support them.

That, or they'll keep the first round confined to the core mechanic (zero modules) to get solid and concise feedback on that.

At DDXP, I heard that they would start "pretty soon, like pretty much right after the con (i.e. DDXP)."

Just knowing how long it takes to get anything done at the hospital where I work, I suspect "pretty soon" could easily be May.

Over on the WotC blogs there was some info about still going through play test data. I bet part of the xp play test was a dry run for the public one.
