Any way to extinguish a sunrod?

Helo guys!

Are there any good way to remove light from sunrod without creating magical darkness?

I want to let some creature use their darkvision ability at maximum. So I want to remove any light sources from PCs. Flames can be extinguished with winds (say, Gust of Wind spell) or water. Magics can be dispelled. Even permanent magic items can be suppressed for a while with Dispel Magic spell. But how can I extinguish sunrod? If the creatures create magical darkness, they themselves can't use their darkvision ability and that's no good. Do you have any good idea?

Thanks in advance!

The spell No Light in the Book of Vile Darkness cancels out normal light sources, but still allows darkvision to function.

I was going to suggest surrounding the PCs in fog, but I went into the PHB and it looks like darkvision wouldn't function in that situation.

So I guess the order of action would be:
Gust of Wind (removes torches)
Dispel Magic (negates magical lights)
No Light (area becomes dark, sunrod ineffective)
Profit!

Oh wait, the PCs could recast a magical light source. Hmm.

Maybe you could create an alchemical 'darkrod' item that generates as much darkness as a sunrod generates light, and is nonmagical? Then have the villains drop about 20 of the suckers onto the party at the same time as an anti-magic shell or somesuch.

I'm not sure if this is a "solution" to the problem or not, but:

ranged weapons.

If you attack at range, your darkvision will allow you to function normally outside the range of the PC's light. You see them, they don't see you. If you attack and move every round, they'll be hard-pressed to get a hold of you.

If you've already thought of this, or are particularly interested in melee fighting, ignore this. :p

Lord Pendragon is correct. darkvision will still function normally outside of the light source area.

it isn't like the old days of infravision.

Disintegrate. Definitely disintegrate.

It depends who's holding it.

If it's a Wizard or a Rogue, Disintegrate. Bad Fort Saves.

If it's a Fighter, you want Polymorph Any Object. Bad Will Save.

If it's a Cleric... well, Maze should do it. No SR, no Save, and he vanishes... taking the sunrod with him...

1. Break it.

2. Cover it with light-proof material of some kind.

3. Don't worry about it - it does not infere with darkvsion in any way.

Of course, if what you mean is that darkvision is more useful if no one else can see, then (3) does not apply.
