So I got a Hive, and I took it for a spin.
The Good:
1) Its tough as hell. Reinforced on all corners and edges, sturdy construction. I tossed it in the car and let it bounce around--no problem.
2) Quarter inch squares make for snug fitting places for figs. I REALLY like how the figs fit in this, compared to the standard slots in my other case.
3) One inch and two inch trays. Its nice to be able to sort the figs by size, and have a place where my big monsters really fit.
4) My books fit! Yes, I took my books to the game, and they nestled in the box perfectly.
5) Nice misc/dice rolling tray. A pencil or two, a dice bag, a little note pad, my small binder of counters... all good
6) Shoulder strap and a handle, used and liked both.
The Bad:
1) Only the books fit. I keep my character sheet in a folder...the folder doesn't fit. I have notes on a legal pad...nope. If the Hive were a bit larger, I could have got the folder in it, which would have been nice.
2) I used tweezers to snip the foam down to the right size (anyone know of a better way?) and it took forever. It was also a bit too easy to yank a square out completely. A bit stronger glue to the bottom plate would have been nice.
Overall:
A very nice case, buch better than the one I've been using. I liked it enough to buy a second.
Speculation! I found the Battlehive to be a great case for me. That may have something to do with my figs, tho. I play D&D, and that's about it. If I had some vehicles, like my son's WH 40k stuff, they would not have fit so nicely.
It was a bit pricier than promised, because it got hit with the luggage tarrif. Another $5. I didn't have time to follow up, but my FLGS said they may not continue to make them. She gave a reason, but it was hectic and and I didn't catch it. Then I forgot to ask about it later. I do know they called the distributor and ordered every single one they had left.
