Anyone care to read my 4 page C&C review?

Of course I can't stat it out. That's my point. I wouldn't bother.

My typical BBEG stat sheet reads something like:

HP: 200ish
AC: fighter needs 12+ to hit
To-hit: +25/+25
Grapple: +29
Damage: 2d6+5 19-20 x3
Saves: fails on a 1-4
Powers
Improved Grab
Combat Reflexes (5 AoOs/round)
Shadow Limitation: powers with DCs at -5 in full light
Dominate Person (DC 29) 3/day: PHB pg. whatever
Symbol of Fear (DC 30) 3/day: PHB pg. whatever
Shadow Meld at will: Dimension Door through shadows, PHB pg. whatever
Shadow Jump auto: Full attack after Dimension Door
Shadow Walk 1/day: PHB pg. whatever
Shadow Alacrity auto: Haste while in shadows, PHB pg. whatever

I call shenanigans. It took me an hour and a half to stat out some of my BBEGs from my last high level d20 campaign. I want you to stat out a templated CR 23 Vampire Sorcerer19 focused on conjuration magic and tell me it doesn't take about an hour, at a minimum.

Depending on how well ya know the rules (meaning how often you have to reference the book or SRD), it may or may not take an hour. Stat up the Sor19 first. Apply the template(s) afterwards. Something like a Sor19 vampire I (personally) can do pretty quickly without referencing any book (or the SRD) except maybe to get the # of spells per day/# of spells known...I dont need the book for skills, feats, HD, or the template's benefits.

Now what does all that mean? Nothing actually. D&D/d20 is what it is. C&C is what it is. Two different systems with some things in common. Each does its own thing better and worse than the other. There are things I like about D&D/d20 and things I dont like. Same with C&C. I play both because my players and I like both. So there ya go. :)

Yea, but that's a fighter, or something... spellcasters can take a lot of time, especially if you try to maximize them. I'm just not comfortable fudging things like that. It's a personality issue, I suppose.

For some reason that tickled me.

"Is he dead yet?"
"Is he dead yet?"

"HE'LL GET DEAD WHEN HE GETS DEAD!". ;)

BBEGs almost never die to hp loss in my campaign. I use a brutal system for massive damage, and the villains (and PCs for that matter) usually stand until someone lands a blow sufficiently over their MDT to cause a Fort save they can't pass.

With that said, when I do use hp damage, I'm not averse to using the conventional hit point system and assigning a definite number there.

No, by my book that's a SPELLCASTER (or at least a fighter/mage).

He has all of six 'active powers,' most of them based off of D&D spells. If I seriously expected those 200ish hit points to last more than 2-3 rounds, I might give him another four or five more powers.

I wouldn't, however, give him a spell list, D&D style, that he would essentially never use. I don't like D&D and that's one of the main reasons; I like d20, however.

But yeah, it's basically a personality issue. :D

Amen!

I don't understand why people have to look at C&C and D&D as an either/or situation. I think that's a tendency of people anyway, but it seems to me that you can play both systems, or take elements from both to create a nice hybrid.

In my own case, I've been looking at D&D, C&C, and lately True20 in order to shape the rules the way I want them to be for my own games. It's good to have all these resources to draw upon. Though no single one of them is exactly what I want, all of them have something to offer.

Yep! Hey Dragonhelm, I've got a 0.9 version of my True20 to C&C feat conversion if you're interested. Just tell me where to send it.
