Anyone else moving away from D20?

Darklance

First Post
My group has been playing various D20 games since August 2000 up until now.

Last night I ran a intro Alternity game for most of my group.

To put it short, they LOVED IT.

The sliding dice mechanic, the feel, the setting, the adventure. EVERYTHING. They were so excited that they went home to scour the internet for PHBs.

So it looks like I'll be switching over to Alternity in the near future and I was wondering if anyone else is starting to drift away from D20 after the a few years of play.

Not really... but then again, kinda. See, D20 has never been the only mechanic for our group. We play D20 for a while, then we do some Whitewolf, then we do some Shadowrun, then maybe back to D20, then who knows from there? :D

I drifted away from D20 for the past year, playing Hackmaster. Recently I've been playing more D20 again, but there is something about Hackmaster that I find more enticing. Almost like the game has more soul than D20, sorry if that sounds stupid. I'm also working on an Alternity StarDrive game, and every now and then we play CoC (not the d20 version). So chalk one more up for falling away from d20, although not completely.

Not at all! As a hackmaster fan, I understand exactly what you mean.

Not any time soon. Especially with R&R2 coming out and the expectant release of Termana. Which means...The Dark Carnival! :D Can't wait!

I'm going to try out Pinnacle's Savage Worlds when it comes out in November. You can get the test drive rules now. We used it for a mini-game already. It was great fun.

not really moving away but adjusting my game. Taking the time to modify my house rules to fit the game I want to run. I think the D20 rules allow this nicely.

Mana System - (ability bonus X 2) X Caster Level = mana pool. Spell cost = Spell Level X 4

Firearms - misfires on 1, 3, 5, 7, 11, & 13

The biggest problem I have seen with D20 is the amount of source material being published and finding the balance with your game.

My group and me still think D20 is the best system out there all-round, and apart from forays into systems such as Hackmaster once in a blue moon we're sticking with it.
