Anyone ever encountered a UFO?

The thread about ghosts got me wondering about this. Was going to post in that one, but felt it was a separate subject.

You'd never guess it's a really slow day today? :)

Years ago, I was on an Outward Bound holiday in Wales - you go out into the countryside, do some hiking, camping, abseiling and the like.

I was with a couple of friends, camped out in the open air in the countryside. Was about 11:30pm and we were all sober, if a little tired.

Anyway, we all saw around half a dozen pinpoints of lights -mostly orange, but they flickered to other colours. They were 'dancing' around on the horizon. We watched them for about 5 minutes, trying to work out what they were. Even moved around a little, trying to decide how far away they were. Suddenly, they started moving along the horizon very quickly, covering about a quarter circle in front of us in a handful of seconds. Then disappeared.

Pretty underwhelming, but I have no idea what they were - hence the UFO description!

Anyone else had anything similiar, or perhaps a little more impressive?

I saw a saucer-shaped object hovering about a hill near my house a long time ago. Just sat there for a while, then zoomed off.

When I was a kid, I saw an orange disk-shaped object in a field across the highway from my house. Went inside to get my mom, but when I returned it had gone. Very strange, and (to my young self) VERY large.

To this day, I cannot fathom what it was. However, although I did/do imagine it to be a "flying saucer" of some variety, I can't really call it a UFO because it wasn't flying while I observed it. Maybe an Unidentified Sitting Object? ;)

That must have been a strange thing to see... Did it leave any sort of landing marks?

Ashwyn - was yours part of the 'orange object' gang?

Does that make it a U.S.O. :)

All singing, all dancing probe-ulations?

It very well might make it a USO. ;)

At the time I saw it, I was too young to know to check for landing marks. But, it was in the autumn (and the field had been plowed) so burnt foliage wouldn't have been easy to find, anyway.

In fact, for a number of years I thought it was something i had just dreamed, because I had always been interested in Aliens/UFOs...

But, I found that a buddy of mine (who had seen it with me in the "dream") also remembered the object/sighting...which gave my memory more credence. All in all, it could have been anything...I prefer the mystery, really. :D

Yes. No. Maybe.

When I was about eleven or twelve, in the summer I would lay out in my front yard on moonless nights and watch satellites come across the sky. One night, my dad and I were both out when we saw one come across, stop, and then proceed again ninety degrees off of its original vector. It was just a pinpoint of light, nothing particularly thrilling, but not something satellites do as a rule of thumb.

I've seen 3.

One, when I was about 12, was a strange hovering object with lights on it that looked like this (the os being lights)

oooooooooo
00000000000000
oooooooooo

I watched it for about 30 seconds, then I turned around to get my father, and while running for him, I heard a weird noise, and when I looked back, it was gone.

Then about 10 years ago, there was something I thought was Venus. Looked like Venus. Except it suddenly disappeared after about 30 minutes of watching. Just blinked out.

Could have been a weather balloon that popped or something.

The last was 2-3 years ago. I thought it was a rocket taking off (I used to live in Florida, about 30 miles from the cape) and would see them all the time, so I know what they look like. Basically, a bright object with something of a tail, starts on the horizon, then goes to just about the zenith of the sky, and slowly fades away as it gets farther than farther.

This looked exactly like a rocket. Except I now live in St. Louis. I tried to look for any rocket or missile launches, but couldn't find any mention of any. Plus, they generally shoot them to the east from Florida, over the ocean (plus they get the benefit of the spin of the earth)

No, it was silver, and the light reflecting off of it made a effect like when oil mixes with water. It looked like it was spinning. Whatever it was, it was cool.

Wow! That sounds really impressive! Did it feel 'scary' at all?

I've seen wierd lights hovering over the ocean and just zoom away hard to say what it exactly was.

Sounds rather like the things I saw... Still turn it over a little in my head now and again... Good insomnia thought :)
