anyone ever play in or run a Midnight campaign?

Midnight is my favorite campaign setting right now. I have a campaign that has been going in it for about eight months now, and am working on starting a chat-based campaign (if anyone's interested, just PM me or something).

The comments that people have made about the world being overly-oppressive are pretty accurate. Though I loved the setting from the first time I opened the book, it is definitely a very disheartening setting. One way that I have countered that with my PCs is I have made our campaign much more epic than a general campaign. Though they started off just trying to survive, now that they're approaching mid levels (levels 7-10), they have realized that they are actually serving a purpose for the world. It is entirely possible I will even have them encounter one of the Night Kings as the final campaign (level 18+, of course), with theirs and the Night King's death leading to some portion of the world's salvation. The fact that the PCs actually have a goal (which, currently, is to destroy one of the infamous Black Mirrors below the Southern Fang on the Gamaril River) is something that drives them forward, even when they feel that they don't stand much of a chance.

All that being said, this is most definitely not a setting for the light of heart, or the immature. Death, Torture, Murder, Betrayal, and even worse moral crimes are a common occurence in this world, and if you think you can't stomach thousands of innocents being slaughtered often on a daily basis, then this world is most likely not for you.
