Anyone from MEG - Dragonstar, Raw Recruits

Hawklord

First Post
I'm just about to kick off a Dragonstar campaing using Raw Recruits and the Everstanza as a base...

One thing I can't find - how much do the PC's get paid if they sign on to the Sevartha Exploration League.

Under Recruitment in the 1st chapter it says that the benefits are so good no one wants to leave - but what's the actual salary for a first level recruit?

I know what my PCs are like - unless they know how much cash they're going to get they'll never sign up and the campaign will be scuppered before it starts.

I dont realy want to wing it and end up giving them far too much (or too little ) cash.

Any help would be greatly apreciated

Heh... that's a good question and one that never occured to me. And I wrote one of the adventures lol.

Make it up, do a flat pay times character level of say 500 credits monthly and bammo.

Jason's estimate sounds pretty good, actually. And don't be so hard on yourself, Chuck. Just because some nit-picky reviewers didn't like your take on science-fantasy doesn't mean it isn't fun. And isn't having fun the whole point of gaming? :D

And remember, Hawklord, that it says "benefits" and not "pay". The PCs are granted room and board on a grand vessel in the company of trusted (for the most part) companions. They at least won't want for necessities. Pay is important, of course, but not the only definition of compensation in this case. Maybe your players will appreciate that as well. Keep us posted on how the campaign goes! And be sure to grab the web enhancement: http://www.mysticeyegames.com/showsection.php?section=2

Thanks for the help guys.

We start rolling up characters tonight so we'll see how it goes.

I'm thinking of starting off in the Primogen system running the sample scenario in the Guide to the Galaxy before droppping them into Raw Recruits.

BTW does anyone know if there's a conversion to 3.5 available for Dragonstar or if there are plans for any more adventures.

No problem. Good luck, but when equipping the characters, bear in mind that Raw Recruits (at least my portions of it) were written using only the Starfarer's HB. I had no access to any other book because they were not yet released (IIRC).

Another caution here. When writing the first adventure, I assumed that the PCs would come in cold with no practical XP under their belts. Not sure if running the Primogen scenario would upset the XP balance as the party goes through the Raw Recruits modules. I also assumed they had no major (if any) energy weapons (important for the primary foes in "Aftermath").

If there is a conversion, I haven't read about it. As far as more adventures, well that's a sore spot. There's Raw Recruits and the regular-sized mod called Heart of the Machine (also by MEG). The next mega-adventure called Veterans is practically complete (finished mid-2003 but I need to tweak some things yet) but has yet to see FFG approval. I have no idea what the hold up is but it doesn't make me very happy.

Cool !

I was planning on restricting my players to the Starfarer's Handbook initially anyway - no sense on over-complicating things with a new setting.

A couple of them are also nervous about moving away from "standard" D&D so I've also restricted them to the basic D&D races and character classes as well for their first PCs until they get the "feel" of Dragonstar.

Interesting news about "Veterans" - hopeully its a direct follow on from "Raw Recruits" (btw I love the idea of the Dead Cannon if that was yours :) ). I had a look on MEG's website but couldn't find mention of any upcoming products.

cheers !

Not a bad idea. I wrote "Aftermath" with this kind of party in mind--part sci-fi and part typical fantasy adventure.

While it is not specifically a follow-up, it does provide sidebars and notes for campaigns using the Evarstanza (and Raw Recruits) as a starting point. It's a real treat if the damned thing ever gets published.

Hey Hawklord,

I intentionally left the actual pay scale vague due to the fact that it would mean different things in different campaigns.

Napftor has given you some excellent answers so I do not need to add much. Thanks for your interest. The dead cannon was my creation as was the background stuff like the Everstanza and the main crew. I also co-wrote the last chapter with Napftor. It was a fun book to do.
