Anyone have an idea for an African mini-adventure?

Hello everyone, I'm in search of a cool mini-adventure for my pcs. They will soon reach a part of the world (homebrew) inhabited by african-like people, NG or TN. The pcs are in search of a better to live, along with 50 other ex-slaves they have freed. The majority of the world is occupied by hostile forces, like hobgobelins and minotaurs, and I expect the "africans" to be quite helpful with anyone working against the Power.

Now, this is where i need all your good ideas. I want this encounter to be as interesting as possible, but i dont know a lot of things about this culture. What could the africans ask for their help? What creatures will make surviving harder? (They will be only 5 level 2-3, so a pack of lion may be a little too much :) ) I dont suppose they will pass a lot of time in this land, but it will be a good opportunity for a short and sweet adventure :)

All I have think of is that a small village will ask for them to kill a voracious animal who have been killing a lot of villagers recently. Wow, quite original

Could there be rival tribes? Maybe the witchdoctor in charge of a rival tribe has cursed the men of the tribe PCs meet so that they're infertile, or maybe he's turned all of their children into wild pigs or something. They might need to negotiate with the rival tribe, or the might need to steal or find a cure of some sort.

I like your story idea a lot. My players would shoot me if I made a game as based around responcibilty as helping 50 freed slaves find someplace safe to live.

One caviate: I know less about africa/african myths than you do. I'm also about to spout off lots of ideas that might be completely counter to the culture (if you can say that africa has a culture when it's as big and diverse as it is). If it's fun I say run with it.

*The party finds a safe, verdant area controled by a friendly tribe. However they are warned that they can only stay in the area for 13 days. After that the tribesmen must kill them and sacrifice them to the spirits who protect the land.
They aren't evil people. They're very specific and straightforward and share freely, but the spirit that guards the place will only allow people born into the tribe (and maybe young people who marry into the tribe) to stay.

*The group is met by an old wise-man who greets them warmly. They are expected, for he has seen them in his dreams. He tells them something of the dangers they face ahead.

*The group encounters another band of refugees coming toward their group. Violence has broken out in the region between two tribes. Are the PCs willing to help this new group as well as the old slaves?

(I guess this really isn't the -adventure- stuff per se. But it's what came out)

Have you checked out Nyambe? I haven't got it yet, but from most reports it's really well-done. You might want to pick it up - or at least flip through it for ideas to steal :)

first, welcome to the boards...

how about having the p.c.'s wade into a herd of animaks to determine which one is the reincarnation of their leader?

as soon as the "sign" is found, the animal is threatened by a predator and p.c.'s to the rescue?

I run an open dome mini-adventure called KALACHANGA!. Its set back during the Um-Bongo years (1547-1549) where many shipqwrecked European sailors fell prey to the ancient arts of KALACHANGA! - an escape and evasion game.
