Anyone interested in a new Religious Horror RPG...?

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to help a friend promote a new game called Creations End and I figured there is no better place to start than on a RPG message board.

About two months ago, I was introduced to Creations End (a new Religious Horror RPG) as a volunteer gamer during the final five test play sessions.

I honestly walked in knowing nothing about the game other than the overall theme (religious horror....Constantine, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Exorcist, Prophecy, etc...theme).

Well, the game was awesome.

It is definately, in my opinion, the best supernatural horror game I have ever played. One of the game testers said, it was like "..Underworld with warring angels". Honestly, it went way beyond that.

We played through spiritual wars, possession, exorcisms, spells, miracles, creatures, religious cults, factions of fallen angels, secret organizations, conspiracies, corrupt politics, dark magic, runes/relics...and it went on and on.

Anyway, the gaming book (Creations End Core Rules) is being published by Winterwolf Publishing with a publishing release date of September 15th, 2005.

The Official release date for nationwide bookstores (Barnes & Noble, Borders, Books-A-Million, etc) will be October 1st, 2005.

If anyone is interested in that type of genre, I encourage you to take a few minutes to visit the Creations End website at: www.CreationsEnd.com.

The website is pretty simple but the game is really great.

What's the page count. I've looked over the website as well as Winterwolf's, and I haven't been able to spot it.

The premise looks interesting enough. It reminds me a little of "The End" or "Rapture". Of course, thats only because they're the only other modern religious RPG's I know of, besides In Nomine.

$19.95 is pretty cheap for a rule book/campaign setting. It makes me wonder how much I'm getting for my money.

And I take it this isn't a D20 game?

Everyone I met loved the game. We had the test play books...but I think the overall page count was around 230. As for the price, I am pretty sure that has alot to do with the page count and the fact that this is Winterwolf Publishings first steps into the RPG market.

Of course...I could be wrong. ;)

The thing I enjoyed most about the game was the faction politics and combat. The background was solid and unlike other games in the same genre....CE appeared to be much more bolder in their approach and use of the Bible. Overall the blend of fantasy, the supernatural, and religion...adding to the depth of the game.

Well, I'm a huge fan of these types of games. in fact, today, I received my shiny new copy of The End: Lost Souls Edition. I have a couple of questions though.
1. Can you give an idea of what other supernatural horror games you've played, so I have a better understanding of your comparison?

2. How does compare specifically to The End and Rapture: The Second Coming (either original or d20)? For that matter, how similiar is it in subject to either of those games?

Just a thought - "Underworld with warring angels" is not a selling point with me. That statement actually turned me off a bit.

I honestly haven't played either The End or Rapture: The Second Coming (although I heard it was pretty good).

I have played Steve Jackson's In Nomine before. The game has its own strengths but doesn't really come close to the character / environmental involvment and the combat found in Creations End.

There is one element in Creations End (well...in the Core Rules) that I consider both a strength and weakness (as I shared during our test play discussions).

The Core Rules does a great job of "leaving no stone unturned" with regards to what fans of a religious horror game would want (something that received high marks from the test play group I was involved with).

However, more could have been written overall within each area. It was almost like the writer decided to lay an "oustanding foundation" for the game that could be built to even greater heights later (future books perhaps...?).

Of course, again, it would be very hard not to appreciate the completeness found in the initial book (the Core Rules).

Like I said, it is the best supernatural horror rpg I've ever played and I was not alone in my thinking during test play. It will be interesting to hear what other reveiwers around the country will have to say once a copy hits their doorstep.

I'll pass. I 'd rather have another SciFi, Fantasy or Science Fantasy RPG.

Haven't played a Science Fantasy game...but have played SciFi's and Fantasy games. I prefer the "darker games" such as the Call of Cthulhu, Vampire: The Masquerade, etc.

I was happy to hear that more games such as The End, Rapture, and Creations End were coming on strong this year. Early on, I was limited to playing In Nomine, D&D, and Vampire: The Masquerade.

How about the crunch? What's that all about then? Is it based on an existing system, or is it *like* an existing system in any significant way?
