Anyone know where to obatin scanned images from the MM?

My simple question if stated in the topic line. I'd like to occasionally show our group pictures of what they see without flipping to a certain page in the actual MM. Any sites you're aware of that have the images scanned for download?

I'm pretty sure this would be considered copyright violation.

I'm reasonably sure you're right, but I was hoping that WotC might have posted some of the pictures somewhere, without the other relevant gaming content. Alas, that isn't bloody likely I suppose.

Actually, aren't a lot of those pictures (and other monster pictures from more recent books) available on the Wizards website?

Also, it's not copyright violation to scan images for your own personal use from a book you own. Quickbeam, I'm not sure where you live, but my public library in Canton has a scanner in it. If you have a disk, you don't pay a dime, although if you print it it costs you 10-cents a copy or something like that.

Also, I have a scanner, but my :) :) :) :) ing driver is corrupted, and I can't get :) :) :) :) ing PeoplePC to send me the Windows ME CD so I can get a new driver off of it.

To actually answer your question instead of pulling out the 'legal ramifications' card...

There is at least one site online that's done a review of the core books, including the MM. The review has nearly every MM picture in some form or another included, albeit with the proper trademark and copyright information imbedded in the pic.

Wizards.com has quite a few black and white images of various creatures... you might get lucky and find the one you're looking for.

Google's image search is very helpful for looking for the obscure ones... like 'glatezabu" or something like that.

Check around the web in general for monster pics... they may not be from the MM, but they'll help give your players an idea of what the thing looks like.

Hotline has an excellent DnD community... images of monsters are quite easy to come by there. Just don't download pirated copies of copyrighted books!

Usenet probably has some good stuff too, if you know where to look.

Conversely, you could just buy a scanner and a nice printer :)

It's sometimes better, however, to find other pictures other than the MM, since the players are most likely to recognize them if they have their own MMs.

Ironically, exactly the opposite of what you want is available. You can freely download all of the stat blocks and relevant game material about all the monsters in the SRD from The Open Gaming Foundation, but the pictures are proprietary, copyrighted content, and are unlikely to be legally up on the internet.

Now there are a few pictures of DND 3E mosters on the net here and there, albeit not scans from the MM. There's some monsters illustrated on Claudio Pozas Art & Design, and there were some decent concept art sketches on the Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor web site. I'll post more if I can think of them.

The Wizards site wasn't functioning well when I checked them out earlier today. I worked in Canton a few yeas ago, and don't live very far away, but I'm not too keen on the idea of breaking the bindings in my books to scan images. I appreciate the offer and suggestion, but I'm too anal retentive to bend my books that way -- please excuse my silliness :D. Sounds like we're not too far apart geographically speaking...maybe someday we'll mesh gaming groups or introduce ourselves and let the kids play together.

I don't mind at all -- thanks for the tip!!

Loads of useful suggestions...thanks much!!

C'est la vie, right?
