Anyone looking forward to the Tour de France?

Astral Admin - Mwahahaha!
I'm quite pleased to get to see it from the start this year, and I hope to be following the highlights each evening at least.

Any other cycling fans here?

Interviewer: "What is best, Lance?"

Lance Armstrong: "To win the Tour de France, leaving my enemies far behind me in the mountains, and hear the lamentations of the Frenchmen."

Tour de Dope? ;)

Heh. :)

I think part of the reason we hear so much about doping in cycling is because they are actually trying to clean the sport up and trying hard. It seems a lot of sports turn their eye away from the issue even after a positive result from testing. Whereas cycling is testing some of these riders an unheard of number of times to try to clean the sport up.

In basketball, doping refers to...well, dope. IOW, marijuana. Their player's union lived up to its name by fighting to keep MJ testing out of the league a few years ago.

Probably to ensure the league's best could still get high

...enough to dunk the ball.

I've been following the Tour de France for several years now. It has always been fun. Well, I suppose it has hit a few low points here and there, but sprints, mountain stages, and breakaways with more than half-an-hour's advantage always make things fun and interesting. It's certainly more fun than watching soccer. ;)

I wish the Tour de France was as convenient to watch as the Tour of California, though. The stupid trans-atlantic time difference makes watching it live impossible for me. They have repeat showings across the day, but it just isn't the same...

Yeah, the crashes definitely were pretty crazy today. The whole thing got a little weird towards the end with Fabian Cancelerra organizing a non-sprint finish, and supposedly there were a number of people who crashed multiple times across the length of the day, and supposedly the whole thing started when one rider's crash caused one of the race organizers' motorcycles to crash. I admit I am still a bit unsure about what happened...

Still, all of that is fairly irrelevant in the face of Sylvain Chavanel's impressive win. That guy has been an incredible fighter of a cyclist for years, and I am really glad to see him in yellow. He really deserves to wear it, even if he probably won't carry it to the end. The French fans must be ecstatic.

Yeah, I have seen some reports that says one of the motorcycles crashed and ended up with fuel/oil leak that mixed with the water on the road before the main peloton came through and then chaos ensued.

Cobbles tomorrow!
