Fiction Writer's Thread

He / Him
I used to write a lot when I was younger, and then I got way too self-critical about it. Every once in a while a story would realize itself in my mind and I'd suddenly sit down and write it out.

Funny enough, playing Ironsworn actually got me back into writing regularly. It reminded me that you don't have to have your story all planned out... You can "write to see what happens."

Over the last two years I've been going to a local bar once a week to write. It's all just first draft stories, but I've actually been completing stories which is awesome. I have no time to even start researching publishing, but I'm really enjoying the act of writing.

Witing some stuff now and then. Sadly not as often as I would like. :(

I have one novel that I started writing on back in 2005/2006. And has been doing some writing now and then on it.

I am definitely a Pantser. I usually have a vague idea of the overall structure and a vision for the climax, but other than that it all appears while I type.

I have done my fair share of creative writing outside of campaign ideas- IOW, actual fiction, poetry and the like- but haven’t done any in many years. And unfortunately, a lot of my stuff is now lost. Computer upgrades over time meant some got trapped on nonfunctional tech, and much of what I tried to preserve via printing hard copies fell victim to various perils in the physical world.

I have had some ideas for RPG characters lately that seem like they’d make good antagonists or protagonists, though. And I can think of one campaign setting I’ve created that could definitely support at least a few short stories much like George R.R. Martin’s Wildcard shared setting stories originated out of a superheroes campaign.

Gotta sit down and DO it, though.

It feels really strange that BookTube is so young. Most everyone offering writing advice on YouTube is like 30. I would think it was just the platform, except that isn't the case with D&D. There are lots of young DMing advice YouTubers, but also lots of older ones.
Where are the GenX BookTubers?

I have a private "cheer-readers" FB group and I asked them what I should work on and a vocal number demanded I write a sequel to my first novel. I had worked on it for a while years ago, so I shared that with them and simply asked, "Should I continue this?"

What did they say?

I only have one person reading my current novel. Well, one friend, and a handful of folks on the internet have checked out the first couple chapters, but nobody asked me to share the rest.

"I want to know more about that world."
"Yes! That pops into my head a lot."
and simply "Do it."

So.
