I had the exact same feeling, where the beats are okay but they don't hit on the same emotional level as Superman.
My feelings are the exact opposite. Superman was good, but there was something missing for me. This one had all the things for me... Including a science guy Johnny which is usually ignored. And science based everyone honestly. It really illustrated that all 4 are incredibly brilliant making Reed appear so much more intelligent in comparison.

And it wasn't that people were suddenly OK, it was that these people that they trusted had a plan and that helped to alleviate their fear. And I think that they were willing in the end to risk Franklin, but not to give in on the ask to sacrifice him says a lot about the characters, in all honesty.

As a Norrin Rad fan forever, I also love what they did with Shalla-Bal and they flipped the NR/SS dynamic to being between her and Johnny.

I really enjoyed it.

It's slower paced than most MCU films (only two real action sequences), with a tight story arc. I like that the script is laser focused just on the team and their dynamic, and how the whole plot extends from Sue's pregnancy. There is some humour, but it is much less "quippy" than a typical MCU film - this is the first one where Joss Whedon's screenwriting DNA is not very apparent. The art design is gorgeous, and the CGI is top tier - the film just looks great, and again stands apart from the MCU. And I love that is is completely self-contained - you don't have watch a single other MCU film or TV show to get it.

My wife and I enjoyed this one and Superman. I missed The Watcher not being there, but it was cool. A great reboot to DC (Superman) and a very welcome respite from Marvel superhero fatigue (Fantastic Four).

Another piece. The ship is seen in the movie, but they definitely didn't send it to the MCU.
Another piece. They are still on their earth by the end of the movie
OK. Any thoughts on what that other piece might be - or at least where it might appear? Was the Thunderbolts* credit scene an advanced teaser for the next Avengers movie, for instance? I've lost track of what all else is coming out.

really doesn't show anything regarding the other earth. At this point, what gets the FF to our earth is completely up in the air.

Indeed, a matter of taste. I've generally been more into the soap aspects of ongoing comics and while the FF had less of this than the X-Men or Spider-Man, it's certainly been there. But it's wholly absent from this movie.
Soap aspects work best with more strongly ongoing narratives (like TV or comics), than single films.

I agree with Micah, a single movie isn’t ideal for a soap compared to a serialised format.

The movie still has a lot of the plot centre around a married couple dealing with a pregnancy and the birth of their first child, which feels more soap than superhero to me.
