Anyone successfully played a non-humanoid in D20?

I always DM, so I always get to "play" non-humanoids.

I do have a player who eventually wants to play a Ceptu (from Oathbound).

Personally, I think it's time for that Brain Mole Ninja to finally get statted... :D

I'm curently playing...

...a Psuedodragon rogue. The party is 9th level and even with the ECL, she works just fine, particularly as a scout/spy for the party.

It is ALL about the CUUUUUBE!

I hope the cube has tumble. I love that image...

It wasn't a PC, but a character in a memorable round of Once Upon a Time was a Gelatinous Cube Pirate. With a peg leg.

I played a young centaur druid in a campaign. It was lots of fun - and being a druid allowed me to overcome enormous adversity - like stairs and ladders.

The druid abilities allowed me also to interact with human society in an unobtrusive way, so perhaps I was cheating somewhat. It was fun, and I'd play that character again if the campaign was restarted.

Well, we have a centaur fighter in our current P&P party.

A bit difficult in a dungeon scenario, especially when it comes to spiral stairways, rope climbing or confined spaces, but otherwise it works out fairly well.

I'm playing a creature that basically ammounts to a Phasm Monk, or, will, once 'she' takes her first PC Class Levels. She's an amorphous mass of, well, mass. Great character to play- such an alien mindset. She cheats, looking human and all with her shape shifting abilities, but she's significantly different enough that she's an oddball. Imagine a 127 year old shape shifter with the mental development of a 7 year old. Made for some great lines...

"I didn't mean to break her head. It was softer than I thought it was... I'm sorry I broke your head, I only wanted to make you stop moving." (Said to a PC, and then to a corpse.)

(While holding up two handfulls of another PC's blood) "You dropped this."

(To the PC from above) "You leak so much."

Great character. Crazy, but great.

In a group I was with. We had a phaerie (I mean faery, ah however it's spelled) dragon, named Hum Ditty (good name for a dragon bard, I think). It was interesting watching him get in trouble scouting and pulling pranks on every NPC that crossed our way. But the little dragons actual effectiveness was rather limited (all the prankster type spells he picked weren't very helpful in a fight) as he couldn't really do much because he was so small (other than scouting adn making a nuicance of himself).

I know that Savage species doesn't recommend playing animals as characters or infact anything else that isn't basically 'human-ish' shaped (you know - head(s), hand(s), feet)

but has anyone successfully played a non-humanoid creature using a D20 system? I had a PC play a Dolphin ranger but that was set in the water. Anyone out there have a favourite Goat Fighter or Otyugh Barbarian character they want to share?

We had a NPC half-orc rogue who was reincarnated by the party's druid as a black bear. We were a bit worried about the change and asked him if he minded. The DM mimed the NPC looking at his "paws" and said, "Mind what?" He could no longer use some of his skills (open locks, anyone?), but made up for it in sneak attacks....
