anyone trying Battlefield 2142?

Too quote a one-line review from somethingawful.com:

"In the future, all combat strongly resembles Battlefield 2. 7/10."

I won't be picking this one up. I have played all the Battlefields before this one but was so dissapointed with BF2 in finding servers and downloading updates which, if not bought, will reduce the amount of low-ping servers to less than a handful.

That and I'm trying to cut down on gaming.

And EA kills puppies and causes ass-pimples.

Oh yeah, if it makes you feel any better, I don't recall there ever being a tutorial. Though in BF 2 you had a pop-up window and a voice-over descriping what you can do when you come near or select something you haven't done before.

It's kind of expected (by EA) to play in Single-player for a while with idiot AI's before you hit the "big leagues."

But back to my earlier comment. Maybe I'll meet some people IRL that play BF 2142. In which case I too will buy and play the game. Because, above all else, I absolutely loved the teamwork aspect of the battlefield series. Whenever you would move as a squad (especially with just infantry) and act as a team it would be so much fun.

Alas. A lot of online players are jackholes.

they are pretty much selling your personal information and making a profit off of you while simulateously making you pay the same price for their product. I wont buy it. My thing is if you want marketing information do like everyone else does and do marketing surveys and focus groups.

What they are doing is not unusual, but at least with most companies that do it (supermarkets and those key cards) you see the savings.

My main gripe is that if you do not have an internet account, you are out of luck. I live far enough out in the boonies to be able to get little better than dial-up, so I don't bother at the house, and if I did there is no way a dial-up could keep up with everyone else (have a T-1 line here at my work that I use to surf the net). With BF2, they at least let you install and run single player using a "default account" but 2142 REQUIRES you to create an account online and run with it... so I spent $50 for no reason at all. I am going to keep it for when we run LAN games at some friends houses in town, but otherwise... thanks EA, thanks a lot!

I must ask, exactly what personal information are the collecting about me, and who are they selling it to?

From what I have heard, they are tracking how much time my avatar spends looking at ads in game. Since I have not recognized an ad in the game, they are free to whatever data they can glean from that...

ok...I'm ignoring the spyware stuff for now and gonna ask about gameplay....
I must be doing something WAY wrong...I can't believe how bad I suck at this game....I have been playing assult long enought to get to the top of the one unlock tree (the improved assult rifle) and I still suck. If I get 5-6 kills in a round I'm doing good...most of the time I get 2 or 3. Have no idea why I'm getting hosed so much. I'm so frustrated that I'm about ready to uninstall.....
Anyone else having this much trouble or is just me? ;)

I want to pick it up but it'd take time away from WH40K: Dark Crusade. :)

Actually I've loved all the previous BF games BF2 is/was good but I think so far I liked BF: Vietnam best. I'll probably pick it up as a Christmas gift but I am in no hurry.
