AOL and harrassment

The do not call list has worked beautifully for me; I hardly ever get any unwanted calls. Unfortunately, I now get tons of unwanted spam faxes trying to sell me vacations & mortgages from shady companies. This is worse than anything, as it ties up my line, wastes paper and ink and I never wanted the ads sent to me. I've had to disable my fax as a result, and the faxes keep coming, they just don't get through. I hear that the main company doing this threatens to sue you if you spam fax them back, refuses to ever pay its fines, and even spam faxed the FCC after they fined them half a million dollars just to prove they were powerless to stop them from spamming. According to a 1999 law, you can collect $500 per spam fax sent to you but you will never collect a dime from the actual sender, you have to go after the company that paid the spam faxers to send you their ad. It's horrible!!!

We should not have to receive junk mail anymore than spam, spam faxes or telemarketing calls. These are all invasive forms of harrassment we did not ask for. Advertising should be restricted to that which we agree/expect to receive, such as TV commercials, billboards and magazine/newspaper ads. Those are ads we can ignore if we want. Everything else is harrassment. And the shady concept of selling our private info to third parties is despicable. None of these invasive forms of advertisements should be free speech as they trample our right to privacy.

I'm all for free speech, but not when that "speech" is invasive ad speech that forces me to take my fax offline, waste time deleting spam email, look through crappy junk mail making sure a real letter or bill isn't hidden between the junk, or be bothered by telemarketers. If I want to receive ads, I will contact the advertiser and ask them to keep me informed. Otherwise, I don't wanna hear from them.

I hear fax spam is the worst, because it uses your ink and paper that you need, not the person that sends it.

The scumbags who send me fax spam have ________ in their souls! :]

Somebody watches waaaay too much of the gameshow channel.

Whatever happened to either Charles Nelson Riley or the gameshow host guy you have for an avatar now anyway?

Once again however I must insist that people stop posting here before I sue.

Spam faxes are the worst, using up ink and paper of the recipient. Email spam and telemarketers are the next, wasting time of the recipient. While I don't like junk mail, I find it the easiest to ignore and wastes the least of my time (I open my mail by the trash can, since most ends up there anyways, if only the envelopes.)

CNR is still alive (as is Brett Somers), and both are doing autobiographical one man shows (or one woman shows, in Brett's case) but Gene Rayburn died in 1999. I watch Game Show Network all the time, and Match Game is my favorite game show ever, because it is so wacky, naughty, not politically correct and always unpredictable! Best game show ever, followed by the Gong Show.

But I have told AOL repeatly that I don't want then to send me any info or CD's, they have not stopped. Like the "Do not call list" for telemarketers. When you tell someone to stop bothering you, and they keep doing it, thats harassment.
Oh, come on. It's nothing like telemarketers. You don't have to drop what you're doing, run out to the mailbox, and listen to the CD's spiel when the mail arrives. Just drop the CD in the garbage when you're sorting your mail. That's what, an extra 1-2 seconds wasted once every couple of months or so? Criminy. I can't believe you're actually talking about harrassment and lawsuits over something so petty. Seriously. The world is a harsh place, dude - just be strong, put on a brave face, and do your best to deal with that one extra piece of junk mail 5 times a year. Some things are worth fighting for, but causes like this are just stupid.

Don't be so harsh Tewligan! Thanks to Ken's brave words, I've found the courage to contact a lawyer. I'm filing a harassment suit against a credit debt agency that calls my house constantly. That constitutes as harassment, right?

"Pay off your credit debt or we'll secure your other assets against it...bla bla bla".

After I'm done with that, I'm targeting McDonalds next.

"Would you like to super size that order?"

No, I wouldn't! How many times do I have to ask the drive-through window employees to STOP asking me if I would like to super-size my meal?!

I'm fed up!
