AoOp and the feat KnockDown

sty

First Post
You have the feat KnockDown, and you make an AoOp that deals 15 of damage.
My question is: can you make the trip attempt!?
How about if you kill someone on an AoOp, can you use cleave to hit someone next the killed one!?

knockdown

The knockdown feat uses the trip mechanics but otherwise has nothing to do with an actual trip attack. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to use this feat with an AoO.

I don't know enough about cleave off-hand to make a comment one way or the other. Is using cleave a standard or full round action? (I'm too lazy to look it up)

Most people would agree that any feat that applies to melee attacks applies to AoO as well. So I would say that both Knockdown and Cleave could be used with AoO.

And the rules actually say so:

PHB, page 122.

Making an AoO: An AoO is a single melee attack, ...

So there you have it.

nitpicking

Guess I have to be more specific to avoid the nitpickers. By standard action I meant can it be done during a standard action, which by your description it can (i.e. it's "free"). You seem to be a bit "meaning challenged", or maybe you are just ornery. It seems pretty obvious that I meant "does using the cleave feat require a full round action, or can it be used as part of a standard action (and thus during a partial action)"

It's not nitpicking. I just didn't bother explaining the whole thing because it's pretty simple. Any time you attack with a weapon and kill something, you can cleave. Period. So, the Cleave feat in and of itself doesn't require an action, as it is merely hinged upon an attack action. Whether it be a standard attack action for a full-attack action doesn't matter. It only matters that you attack and kill something.

Umm...I'll either take that as a compliment or a joke so as to avoid taking it as an insult.

It was obvious, and I answered your question, though apparently not to your liking. See above for a more complete reply.
