Appalling conduct regarding DriveThru/DRM

Morrus

Well, that was fun

The behaviour of several people in this forum is unacceptable. While the DriveThru/DRM issue is sensitive, personal attacks and insults to other members are not tolerated on these boards.

From now on, I and the other moderators will be watching this forum very closely, with a very low tolerance for rudeness. This is supposed to be a professional forum for publishers, and I expect people to act in a professional and civil manner.

I have already received emails from two members who will not be posting here in the future due to the behaviour of others, and the point where people are driving other members away is far beyond the line set for conduct here.

Three bans have already been handed out, and we will not hesitate to hand out more, whether you're a publisher or not.

Morrus has always run this site as a civil place for the fans to discuss their hobby--and has done so with an incredibly even hand. Your insult is uncalled for.

I don't know Morrus. I've been here a week.

I *do* know that this seems a bit out-of-the-blue, as I haven't seen anything that could produce this sort of response. Maybe it's because those posts have been deleted.

But regardless of whether or not the bannings/deletings have been fair, there's a little bit of a conflict-of-interest in hosting a discussion which you enjoy censorship control on about a product which advertises with you.

I don't think you have any idea what you're talking about, as ENWorld and RPGNow have been working closely together for a hell of a long time now.

Please, let's leave the conspiracy theories at the door. People were acting like complete jerks. They were banned for it.

Oh, this doesn't have anything to do with the fact that DTRPG are now advertisers on EnWorld?
This is either an insult, or it's an honest question. Just one week ago you clicked a button saying you agreed with the forum rules, including:

Keep it civil: Don't engage in personal attacks, name-calling, or blanket generalizations in your discussions. Say how you feel or what you think, but be careful about ascribing motives to the actions of others or telling others how they "should" think
Since you agree with these rules, I've gotta figure that you mean it as an honest question. The answer is: no, it has nothing to do with that.

If you have more questions about this policy, of course, you should email a moderator or administrator about it.

I still think that advertising for DTRPG in this mess is a conflict of interest but that in and of itself does not imply that the bannings were motivated by that.

I've got a bit of a quick temper regarding banning issues, though, and think the power to censor needs to be held with the same responsibility as owning a gun.

Plus, I've come to expect the worst of people.

But you're right... I'm sorry that I implied that this was motivated by the advertising. It's just that, when people (in general) continually dissappoint you, you stop believing that individuals are capable of decency unless they're watched like hawks.

I can almost guess who got banned from reading the threads, but will not go into naming names. But it was clear to me people lost their heads. It is a shame some publishers wish not to come back to Enworld, as we all benefit from the information exchanged.

I may be new to posting on these newfangle contraptions but I know that Morrus has a rep for being honest and fair far beyond the net.

Has my Grandfather taught me "right is always right, but fair is not always right"

Personal attacks we growing and making tempers rise. Everyone feels strongly one way or another. Somepeople when given the ananimity of a handle and the facelessness of the avatar will attack unjustly.

All of this for trying to grow the hobby and make money.

It reminds me of the story about a text book writer being told by a college professor that he did not understand the subject. even though the professor had been teaching what the writer had wrote for five years..

Well now back to my ignorance,

Golly, that sounds like an endorsement for DRM.
