Appalling conduct regarding DriveThru/DRM

well the best part about a forum is being able to really think about your posts b4 you blink them onto the site. i mean, from what i've seen of some sites, this forum is very well run and most of the people here are incredibly mature (even the kids. ;))

of course, people do regress to 5yrs old at times, but that's normal. at least here, the moderators put the ki-bosh on that sort of nonsense b4 it gets outta hand.

Funksaw,
I am still relatively new as an EN World "regular". But, in my experience, bannings are very rare. It is a passionate topic and bound to raise a few hackles. However, it is important to disagree politely and keep things relatively civil throughout the boards. This is the underlying motivator for Morrus and the other moderators.

Golly, that sounds like an endorsement for DRM.
You're right. What I should have said was:

It's just that, when people with any sort of power (in general) continually dissappoint you, you stop believing that individuals are capable of decency unless they're watched like hawks.

like da man says
with great power comes the even greater responsibility of not to misuse it. ^_^

Funksaw, man dont you think you should figure out who you are insulting before you insult them? ENWorld has a spotless reputation for fairness.

Spend a little time learning the community. Morrus, in case you havent yet learned, is pretty much THE guy. As in THE GUY who handles ENWorld, along with some other moderators, and along with the original creator, a guy named Eric Noah (thus the "EN" in "ENWorld") who you can find chiming in from time to time :).

Come on. Step back. Learn who is who. People are for the most part real civil around here. I'm not saying you cant disagree with Morrus (and I dont think he would ever say that). But you put a big sign on yourself that says "I dont know what I am talking about or what ENWorld is all about" when you bust on Morrus or ENWorld in that way.

I think if you were to line up teh amount of money that ENWorld is likely to get from RPGNow sources and from that advert for DTRPG you'd think Morrus should have a bias towards RPGNow, not DTRPG.

Perosnaly I think this, combined with the advert for DTRPG, is a sign that ENWorld is showing a great degree of balance and integrity on an issue in which they have a lot of vested interest.

Keep up the good work Morrus, and all the ENWorld staff!

Particularly when you consider that E.N. Publishing goes through RPGNow, and always has.

I don't know Morrus. I've been here a week.

I *do* know that this seems a bit out-of-the-blue, as I haven't seen anything that could produce this sort of response. Maybe it's because those posts have been deleted.

You haven't seen it because you're used to RPG.net forums.

We keep ourselves a *lot* more civil here. We've always prided ourselves on that.Things that aren't even considered harsh on other forums are viewed a lot more criticly here.

Oh, this doesn't have anything to do with the fact that DTRPG are now advertisers on EnWorld?

*Cough* E. N. Publishing sells through RPGNow.com, if there weere a conflict of interest I would expect it to go the other way...*Cough, cough!*

Some folks are taking it a bit too personally, I don't like the DRM either, and don't intend to make any purchases from them, except perhaps some of the out of print and impossible to get (legally) elsewhere stuff.

So, vote with your wallet, don't buy from them.

Or, vote with your wallet, and do buy from RPGNow. I am sure that RPGNow will appreciate your purchase!

I can understand why some publishers would only sell through a storefront that protects their IP. And while I suspect that their reactions are visceral rather than cranial I do understand it. Hopefully other compnies will follow Malhavox's lead on removing the cun 'n' paste restriction, though I doubt it.

And I suspect that those companies that want the security blanket of the DRM would likely not be patrons of RPGNow because of their fears, right or wrong, of piracy. I have a bigger problem with the 'exclusive' portion of DTRPG's relationship with their clients, and am not even sure of the legality of that portion.

*EDIT* Wierd, when I loaded this page the first time only the top 16 or so posts showed up, my point had already been made, and many hours before...

So, basically what you're saying is that I was totally and utterly incorrect, I implied something which you've shown me is completely untrue, I've shot my own case in the foot, which I then promptly stuck in my mouth.

...this has not been a good week for me.

Morrus, let me apologise more strongly - You're right, I'm wrong on this one, I jumped to conclusions way too far and way too early, and I really hope I didn't upset you. After dealing with publishers lying to me, trying to explain why electronic freedoms shouldn't be surrendered to people that just don't get it, and quite frankly, feeling mighty sore that I had to choose between my principles and my five favorite game lines (Hell, I can't think of any game or RPG book over the next 6 months that I would have purchased that wasn't a White Wolf, GOO or Eden title... even the project I'm working on now would have been a Magnum Opus project - I've switched it to an OGL system) Well, I can rightly say that I've gotten snappy.
