I trust Ari. It's just a little hard to process "bold faced lie to your face", you know?

Maybe it was his interpretations... the demo says "Good and Evil are diametrically opposed," so he thinks "Kill on sight," not realizing that you can't detect someone's alignment.

How did 15th level barbarian powers get brought up in a 4e demo game? The class isn't even going to be in the core books. Number one frankly sounds out and out absurd and completely opposed to everything we've seen in designer notes and philosophies. In any case, we'll see in June.

I asked if he had any "secret knowledge". Ahem. I should've known something was up because he prefaced his comment about the barb power with "I don't know if it's going to be in the PHB1 or not but".

yeah, I am sure you are good Rechan and he is evil so you HAVE to
I am "unaligned". ;)

In the module itself, one of the characters makes a History check to recognize an agent of the Netherise. Success on the check says "Netherise are bad guys, really evil." The guy then proceeds to murderize a commoner (our contact) in broad daylight.

Lots of the people who run demos are volunteers, who were given the adventure/promotional material and no more.

I can promise you that a lot of what he's told you, he either woefully misunderstood or flat-out lied. I can't talk about what--I'm not authorized--but I can assure you of that much.
BTW, thanks for stopping by and clearing this mess up, Ari! :)

P.S. You have an email, unrelated to 4e entirely.

He's pretty clearly full of it, and he's not the only one.

How many people came back from D&DXP with the info that AoE spells and Cleave couldn't kill minions? A few, and that's because the DM they had SUCKED.

Just because WotC let them have a Demo pack, doesn't mean they know what they're doing.

I tried to get a demo pack off WotC for my store, and they said "Try our Delegate program" - they send a delegate to the store to demo it for you. Their attempt is to AVOID this kind of thing, but sometimes it backfires. Delegates are simply RPGA guys who've greased the right palms. They are NOT WotC emplyees, but the wish they were, and may pretend to be.

Honestly, I didn't go for getting a delegate run a demo because I can run them just fine MYSELF and I'll avoid this sort of bull. (I just don't get the pack... which is fine, I can make up demos.)

And AFAIK, as they are RPGA members (and often DMs), the RPGA is often very interested to hear feedback about things like that. Which is important, if somebody spreads blatant disinformation.

Cheers, LT.

Sometimes it's just a matter of DM preference, and some DMs LIKE to have needless control over aspects of the game that for MOST of us would make it stupid.

It's totally possible for someone to have "30 years experience DMing!" and "Official DMing at a major Con!!" and still suck. After all, SOME people might prefer his playstyle. Just not most of us.
