I can see it now:

"Yeah, that was the adventure where my cleric got his black Spiderman costume"

Yeah the campaign would probably fall apart instantly because every player would want to be the one whose character finds the little black blob. Personally I'd rather go the Dr. Doom route and get the Beyonders power.
