Appropriate behavior in warfare (warning: Alignment)

Under the rules? I'd call that sorta thing an evil act. The good-evil axis relies upon how you view other people - if you think other people deserve equal dignity to you, you're good, and the less dignity you afford others the more evil you get. Killing someone who couldn't harm you is quite evil. On the other hand, if the prisoner got free, then you're perfectly within your rights striking first and not asking questions if you're neutral... not if you're good, but I think neutral would allow it.

The PC that promised to spare a life if information was giving may not be evil but he is a liar and his word cannot be trusted. Do other people know about this? If it gets around I would think a very real consquence would be a lack of trust from others, I would also think that if other prisoners found out that play would not work again.

Where tortue is concerned it is an evil act, that aside the information gotten is not always reliable. I would use that given them some bad information.

They are setting the standards on how prisoners are treated if they get captured I would have the same things done to them that they are doing.
