Currently reading The Night Circus by Erin Morgensten. Halfway through now. The writing's pretty flowery but the characters are lacklustre, and the writer seems more interested in describing a clock than putting more life into the characters.

Finished it. Didn't get much better. Despite all the raves, it read like mostly fluff and little substance, with only one character that was actually interesting.

Now on to catching up with my Instapaper reads..

I just finished Mockingjay. Overall, I was very impressed by The Hunger Games, even though YA isn't really my thing (outside the wonderful books of Francesca Lia Block).

Next up... probably Train Dreams by Denis Johnson. It was one of the works of fiction that wasn't good enough for a Pulitzer Prize in 2011.

I read Jesus' Son years ago and found the various stories a bit incohesive (not from one another but individually) though the characters were interesting. I found out years later that much of it was really quasi-autobiographical, according to some, and I have often wondered if his later works were the same. This was years before attending an MFA program, though, so perhaps a fresh reading might make me feel differently. I'll be interested in your thoughts on Train Dreams.

Reading Ready Player One. Pretty good. Lots of fun geeky 80's trivia mixed in with a bleak look at a possible future.

Also reading Wheat Belly. My weight loss a few years ago and difficulty getting rid of the last 15-20 lbs makes a lot of sense now. I'll see if watching the glutin helps.

Read Please Take Care of Mom by a Korean writer. Quite moving, even though it can read like a laundry list of a mother's sacrifices for her children.

Taking a break from serious stuff with Age of Legends, a Warhammer anthology. First two stories aren't too bad, so far.
