L/R (Licensed by Royalty). Good anime series featuring two young men comprising a special agent group answering to the royal family of Ishtar (a country that resembles the cool parts of England, but with better aircraft). They solve mysteries, fight spies and criminal organizations, etc. The first two episodes would make a wonderful live action movie. Seen Disc 1, going to rent the others.
Samurai Deeper Kyo. During Tokugawa Ieyasu’s epic battle of Sekigahara, two samurai face off outside of history. In the heat of the duel between Kyoshiro and Demon Eyes Kyo, a shooting star slams into the plains, shattering the ground and engulfing both of them. Four years later, the bounty hunter Yuya finds the good natured Kyoshiro, now a traveling medicine man. Hidden deep inside Kyoshiro is the soul of his old opponent, the merciless samurai Kyo. Five episodes per disc, interesting characters... I'll at least see the second disc.
Haunted Junction. Saito High School is on a 'fault line' of the spirit world and many ghosts and spirit creatures haunt the school, causing michief, angst and the occassional death. The Holy Student Council, comprised of the daughter of a Shinto Priest, the son of a Buddhist Monk and the son of a Christian Minister, deal with the various spiritual threats posed by the school. Very light hearted comedy, but very frantic and with a heavy, heavy use of the little emotional signatures and highly-stylized art. The only thing I really found funny was the Buddhist kid who kept getting possessed by any spirit near him, and the scene where the student council leader tries frantically to find an exorcist for the school so he can lead a normal life, only to find all of them are terrified of the place. Not my cup of tea, so I only watched the first three episodes.
RahXephon: Vol. 1: Threshold. Interesting series. Our hero has been living in a Tokyo in a world where the population since the war is only like 20 million. Then he's thrust into the real outside world where he finds that Tokyo resides under a force dome, cut off from the outside world. The giant robot RahXephon bonds to him in an as-yet unknown fashion (thing point to his Mom not being human at all, which might make him some sort of alien hybrid). I'll be getting more of this.
Spirit Warrior: Vol. 3: Festival of the Ogres Revival - Now I want to find the others in this series. Cool visuals and interesting plot; I like the hero a great deal as well. It's an older series (1988) so some of the animation might be a little less than might be expected now. This is an OAV series, so it's just the one 'movie' on the disc.
The Twelve Kingdoms continues to be amazing. Disc Four goes into the background of Tai and it's Kirin, who comes from Earth.
Heat Guy J. Very well done near-future police 'buddy' story, with new cop Daisuke Aurora and his huge android buddy J.
Zaion: I Wish You Were Here - A meteor crashes to Earth, carrying a virus that can turn humans into raving insane super-strong beasts. A special group of androids is created to fight it, but their numbers are decreasing with each battle. A new weapon is created with hopes of destoying the beasts, but she escapes with a renegade andriod warrior when it becomes apparent that she can defeat the beasts.. at the cost of her own life. 2 disc series, and I haven't decided whether I want to see the second one. Fairly standard and a little cheap, but the hero has some interesteing scenes that might be swipable for gaming. Terrible CGI integration, but it's not prevalent.
